Opinions on Dulcie?

Was DP's great grandmother

Surname is somethingDay so we want a name beginning with D

Other options
Delilah
Dahlia / Dalia
Dakota

Dulcie is lovely.

There's no 'dull' sound in the name, it's dol-see, so I don't see the problem. I use to teach a Dulcie and nobody called her dull. Dolly is the obvious nickname for when she's little.

Why limit yourself to D names though? Is there anything else you like?

Delilah is ok. Dakota is dreadful though.

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/02/2025 21:32

Gorgeous name

Momager1234 · 21/02/2025 21:31

We have a 16 year old daughter called Dulcie. It's unusual, but not weird. We love it for her.

IridescentRainbow · 21/02/2025 21:29

Dulcie is such a pretty name. Not Dolcie though.

babyfornine · 21/02/2025 21:26

I love Dakota but DP prefers it for a boy also thinks it's too American

Darcy is to popular at least where we are.

Love it. I know one she's really cool.

Smittenkitchen · 21/02/2025 21:11

I really love it.
People on here will come up with any tenuous association to something negative, I swear..

Hedjwitch · 21/02/2025 21:09

I know a baby Dulcie. Sister to Nancy

orangetriangle · 21/02/2025 21:00

prefer Darcie

MoreHairyThanScary · 21/02/2025 21:00

Older lady...

MoreHairyThanScary · 21/02/2025 20:59

I met a Delsie the other day that might also work

Elenasunshine · 21/02/2025 20:58

Dakota, Darcey? Dulcie is sweet but not sure it sounds grown up 🤷🏼‍♀️

ChonkyRabbit · 21/02/2025 20:56

I immediately think Dunce

PercyFone · 21/02/2025 19:20

It makes me think of Dulce et decorum est....

I know the spelling is different but the pronunciation is the same. Not a great association for me, but that might be niche

Yeah, I went straight to Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.

AcrobaticCardigan · 21/02/2025 20:54

Awful. It’s such an ugly sounding name.

HugoYorway · 21/02/2025 20:44

It makes me think of Dulce Domum and Dulce de Leche.

I can remember a 'suitor' who was up himself slagging off my food and referring to dulce de leche as dulls de lesh.

Dulcie Gray was lovely but the name isn't. It's sickly sweet and phlegmy.

Dulcie to Ceecee. WTAF? Like all the Ceecees short for Tracey and Darcey?

pinkdelight · 21/02/2025 20:41

I love it. There was an actress called Dulcie Gray who was delightful. Always makes me think of her.

Vipersgonnavipe · 21/02/2025 20:41

I really like it, would fit with other currently popular names but I’ve not come across one myself so far.
Ceecee would also work as a short nickname, if you don’t want the dull part to be used tbh.

TomatoSandwiches · 21/02/2025 20:37

What about Dessa or Delphine?

Buttonless · 21/02/2025 20:37

I think it’s really awful.

HugoYorway · 21/02/2025 20:25

HelenCurlyBrown · 21/02/2025 20:11

I remember reciting it in a school competition. I still know it off by heart.

I just YouTubed it, definitely as I pronounce it is correct.

The Latin C is pronounced as a K. It's never a 'tch' sound.

Nicolathecat · 21/02/2025 20:16

I really like Dulcie it's lovely

BornSandyDevotional · 21/02/2025 20:16

I work with a Dulcie. She's young, very bright and absolutely lovely inside and out!

Mandarinaduck · 21/02/2025 20:14

I don’t love it myself, but like your other choices.
What about
Dania / Darcy / Dinah / Dagmar / Deborah? I feel Deborah should make a comeback.
