It's lovely. Reminds me of the actress Dulcie Gray from Howard's Way.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/02/2025 09:19

It has a vintage feel like Elsie, Mabel etc that have been becoming popular. I dominantly think "sweet" from the Latin, Italian, Spanish but that's not a bad connotation. I like that it's a family name.

Rosenkohle · 22/02/2025 09:17

I also prefer the Italian pronunciation with a soft c, like dolce

Maboscelar · 22/02/2025 08:45

I think it's a ugly sounding name, very heavy and clunky. My kitten came called Dulcie and we changed it because we hated it so much. So it's a no from me.

Tabbsi · 22/02/2025 08:43

Like it in the Italian way “dolce” and the Italian pronunciation but not sure I like this English version Dul-see. The “Ul” sound is off putting for some reason, don’t hear it often in a name. Reminds me slightly of ulcer.

Pinkbirds · 22/02/2025 08:24

How on earth is a difficult name to pronounce?

I get really fed up with MN saying you can’t have a name which could be mispronounced. Surely you’ve experienced the world and people from different cultures/regions of the world with names which are not English and coped 😵‍💫

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 22/02/2025 08:19

No. I get you want an unusual name but that kid is in for a lifetime of mispronunciation and misspelling.

I hear dull too and while okay for a baby/kid being called sweet as you name when you are an adult just no.

Pinkbirds · 22/02/2025 08:13

Love it! It’s unusual in a very good way. I think it works for all ages and the link to your family is lovely 🥰

ChompandaGrazia · 22/02/2025 07:29

I know a Dulcie. She is a lovely little girl. I really like it as a name. One of those old fashioned names that has really made a come back, but Dulcie hasn’t been as popular as the others.

@SorrelForbes The Boyfiriend was my first thought too, though isn't it Fay not May?

I think it's quite a nice name, a little twee (but that might be my association with it and the musical), but generally a good name.

Yes, Fay! Stupid autocorrect.

BettyBardMacDonald · 22/02/2025 02:00

It's ok for a toddler.

My favourite from your list is the superb - Dulcie.
Sweet, not too popular and goes well with other names.
Dulcie is more timeless than Delilah, Dahlia and Dakota.

Dulcie SurnamDay
One other idea..
Adele

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/02/2025 00:10

It’s very cute but I’m not sure it would suit me as an adult. Darcey has a bit more of a teen / adult friendly sound to me.

PercyFone · 21/02/2025 19:20

It makes me think of Dulce et decorum est....

I know the spelling is different but the pronunciation is the same. Not a great association for me, but that might be niche

. . .. there are at least two people sitting in your niche.

I like it, as long as your surname isn't Domum.

One for aged (ex) Guardian readers 😁

I was just thinking that!

SorrelForbes · 21/02/2025 22:03

I love it. It reminds me of the musical The Boyfriend (rhe girls are Polly, Maisie, Dukcie, May and Nancy)

I think Dulcie is lovely.
Not so keen on Delia as it reminds me of Delia Smith who is a saint in the kitchen and a slightly ludicrous human being in a football stadium!

carly2803 · 21/02/2025 21:43

honestly - i see "dull"

cant not see that

There was a Dulcie in my older sisters year at school and she was known as Dolly.

I like it.

Daijoubudesu · 21/02/2025 21:40

I knew an old lady in her 80s with that name. Her twin was called Dora which wasn't much better. How about Daisy or Danielle?

ilikeeggs · 21/02/2025 21:40

I love it.

DramaAlpaca · 21/02/2025 21:39

I strongly dislike it. I'm surprised it's getting such a positive reaction actually.
