Baby girl names - Celine

Hello! We've been having a hard time naming DD2 - We live in London and finding the process so difficult.
DH likes Robyn - I don't mind this but don't love it either.
I like Celine & possibly Clara.
DD1 is Isla - I don't mind if their names don't 'match' as such but really want a pretty, elegant but not too twee name for our new addition.
Celine has really been growing on me recently as it's not overly popular (apart from Ms Dion obvs!) and I like the option of CeCe when she's little.

Thanks if you've got this far and please feel free to give your thoughts!
Have a great day! ☀️

Lovely name

If Celine dion is putting you off you could always spell it differently like Selene

Or have a similar name like
Selina
Cecilia
Celia

And there is Cicely Mary Barker - the author.
Isla and ..
Cicely
Celine
Celia
Sabine

Celine is a nice name, but I don't like CeCe and once you start calling her that you'll never stop

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/02/2025 00:46

Celine is nice enough -but I I much prefer the spelling of the Classical Selene (which is technically pronounced differently, but British people usually pronounce it like Celine). I feel the same about Robyn - nice enough but a bit trendy with that spelling, whereas Robin is much more classic.

In terms of matching Isla, then I feel Clara is the best bet - similar sounds without being too close, similar rise in Top 100 trends, they just feel more like sisters names to me. Like Isla, it usually only has one spelling too in the UK, which simplifies things. But you mention you don’t care about “matching” (and many people don’t), in which case go for whichever you like best - all are pretty choices.

A beautiful and elegant French name, really like it (Celine) … it sounds particularly beautiful in a French accent too if that’s your heritage

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 17/02/2025 18:56

Love Celine, high end fashion label. I don't think of Dion at all, CeCe is sweet.

Justbloodylovecrisps · 17/02/2025 18:54

Can confirm my name is Robyn & I've never been called Rob before :)

I love the name Celine, it's lovely!

Celine is a beautiful name... definitely my favourite out of your lists.

Isla is very popular and will date hugely. Clara is more classic but increasing in popularity...it's nice but a little bland. I don't like Robyn.

Celine is elegant and feminine...just lovely

Normallynumb · 17/02/2025 15:10

Celine is lovely
My friend has just had a baby girl called Camille which I love

AubergineSalad · 17/02/2025 14:49

Celine is fab, v elegant. People will know it but it isn’t overused. Would be a great choice as long as you’re both on board!

UninterestingFirstPost · 17/02/2025 14:47

Cecila
Caroline
Romy
Chloe

midlifeattheoasis · 17/02/2025 14:44

Celine is lovely OP

AsFunAsEnglishWeather · 17/02/2025 14:33

Celine is lovely - reminds me of the Richard Linklater 'Before...' films with Julie Delpy.

Cece is very American (though I probably think that as I know an American couple with a daughter called CeCe) - I'd probably shorten it to Line (pronounced Leena) myself.

WildCherryBlossom · 17/02/2025 14:28

Celine is lovely. My DCs know 2 between them (one has French heritage) so it seems to be in use but definitely not overused. Unlike some PPs Ms Dion did not cross my mind.

It would definitely get my vote over Robyn.

KnickerlessParsons · 17/02/2025 12:58

To be pedantic it should be Céline. The accent changes the pronunciation.

Boardingschoolmumoftwo · 17/02/2025 12:55

Also Delphine?

Boardingschoolmumoftwo · 17/02/2025 12:54

I adore Celine and Celia/Cecily/Celina

Bbq1 · 17/02/2025 12:54

Clara is nice enough b I don't really like Robyn - although I think it could grow on me. Lifetime of being called Rob though?!

Bbq1 · 17/02/2025 12:52

I think Celine is beautiful and quite unusual so that's good. Any "connection" to CD will soon be forgotten and irrelevant to dd's peers. I adore CeCe as a shortened version.

BuntyBeaufort · 17/02/2025 12:42

Robin, which is how I'd spell it, is my favourite girl's name, so I'm biased, but Celine is lovely too. Very elegant.

EcruCardigan · 17/02/2025 12:30

@Notgivenuphope , I don't see why there's sucjh a need for 'nicknames', especially a 2-syllable one for a 2-syllable name.

FatLarrysBanned · 17/02/2025 12:30

I think it's a beautiful name. Cece reminds me of Cece Bloom in Beaches. I'm of an age when I think "Celine Dion", but I don't think that's a bad thing, you're not thinking of calling her Myra...

Notgivenuphope · 17/02/2025 12:23

EcruCardigan · 17/02/2025 12:13

I'm not keen on Celine and Cece is awful

I mean Celine is fine. It’s a French name and could be worse. But why do young British mothers have to treat their children like dogs and give them silly nicknames
