Greek boys name (we're not Greek)

Would love suggestions of Greek boys names that don't sound too out there if we're not Greek - we love many Greek names but feel they all sound a bit odd with the cultural connection...

His name would have been Xaris - so basically Harry in English

All the English/greek boys I know have names like Loucas, Antonis, Markos, Andros (Andy), Marios. Christos, Mihalis (Michael), Nikos - all names that obviously have a common English alternative

No it was spelt Aris. Exactly like that.

I went to Uni with an Aristotle who always went by Aris which I thought was a nice name.

Your “Arris” is cockney for your backside so it might depend on where you live as to how nice that name is!

Balonios

Maximus
Julius
Cassius

None of which are Greek ...

tobee · 14/02/2025 22:23

Adonis is a good name but it's quite a lot to live up to, innit?

Maximus
Julius
Cassius

These are all Roman names so Italian, not Greek!

StupidBitchy · 14/02/2025 22:00

Don't think anyone has mentioned Jason.

Apileofballyhoo · 14/02/2025 21:36

Aris.

I worked with an obstetrician called Aris, he had the loveliest bedside manner, had such a lovely calming presence and these kind eyes.

He made me fall in love with the name.

My parents are Greek. My brothers are called Andreas, Solos and Panos if that's helpful.

Upyerbum111 · 14/02/2025 21:20

Lefteris, which is liberty in English. Has to be the best Greek name

I was always in love with the name Ptolemy but my DH was having none of it!

How about Pyrros
Dimos
Konstantinos?

Neither was mine. He’s dyslexic and refuses to give his child a name he couldn’t spell… fair, but I love it!

UpMyself · 14/02/2025 21:18

Upyerbum111 · 14/02/2025 21:17

greek is a completely different alphabet

So, when someone realises it's a Greek name and you're not Greek.....

Why a Greek name if you have no cultural connection?

My kid’s called Zoe and we’re not Greek 🤷‍♀️

Calling a kid Adonis seems almost setting him up for failure.....how could anyone live up to a name like that?

DS1 was at school with Adonis. DS2 was at nursery with Demetrios. Adonis wasn’t Greek, family is European Jewish but not Greek.

UpMyself · 14/02/2025 21:06
