Not as keen on the Ez-me option though.

I would automatically pronounce it Ez-mee and prefer that pronunciation but have heard both, probably a fairly even split.

Its originally from the French name Esmé- Ez-May?

Its only in recent years I've heard it pronounced Ez-Mee. I always just assumed people didn't know the name origin, or how to pronounce it and hence were pronouncing it phonetically.

Ez-may, it wouldn’t occur to me that it could be pronounced Ez-mee as all the ones I’ve known have pronounced it Ez-may.

Im really not keen on the sound of Ez-mee personally.

I would pronounce it Ez-me because I'd only ever seen it in writing and not heard it out loud. But I've learnt from Mumsnet that it's pronounced Ez-may.
