How would you pronounce Esme?

Locally, Home Counties it's generally Ez-may. I teach over 500 children a week and there are quite a few. I have heard the other pronunciation on occasion but less popular.

Its originally from the French name Esmé- Ez-May?

Its only in recent years I've heard it pronounced Ez-Mee. I always just assumed people didn't know the name origin, or how to pronounce it and hence were pronouncing it phonetically.

Ez-may. It should have an accent, but even without it's the same (French) name and should be pronounced as if it has one.

It should be written with an acute accent and pronounced the same as the e in café.
