Faye, Fern, Nina or Clara?

My partner and I have finally agreed on a handful of names, although we each have different favourites. Which of these names do you like best? I keep changing my mind!

Faye
Fern
Nina
Clara
Erin

(Edited to add Erin as a late contender!)

There is just something about Fern that I adore. My partner really likes it too, but he keeps switching between that and Nina (which I also love). I guess we'll wait and see when she arrives. I think that Clara, Faye and Erin are out at this point. Thanks so much for all your input.

I have a Nina so I am biased but I love all of your names! She has never once been asked what it is short for (just asked her) and nor have I. It is absolutely a full name in its own right.

Clara - V nice

Fern - it’s ok

Nina - a bit nothingy as a full name, better as a nn for Janina or Emmeline whatever

Faye - too wet (who wants to be called after a fairy)

Erin - too 90s, a bit low rent

Mandarinaduck · 26/01/2025 14:44

Very nice list of names. I like Nina best and then Fern.

Snowfairyxx · 26/01/2025 12:09

I have 2 girls and they both have a name on your list. So I think it is a good list.
I like Fern, Faye and Erin.

Katieweasel · 26/01/2025 11:17

Love love love Nina

I like Fern and Clara best

JaninaDuszejko · 26/01/2025 08:32

These are all good names that nobody is going to react negatively to.

Fern is my favourite. Well known but not common. Clearly feminine but not fussy.
I like Erin, I'm in my 50s and always think of it as American or Canadian, but not in a bad way, probably because I first came across it in American novels. Like Fern it's not fussy and that is good.
Clara is pretty but very popular.
Nina is often a nickname so she'll get some people asking what is it short for.
Both of those end in 'a' which has been a very popular trend for along time so I think they'll date quicker than Fern or Erin.
Faye, I prefer the Fay spelling, the additional e is slightly too fussy for my taste.

Thank you all! It seems that Nina, Clara and Fern are the favourites so far :)
Hopefully we will know with more certainty once we see her!

Nina. All day long and twice on a Sunday. I was torn and was going to go for Nina but went with Naomi in the end.

Fern is great!

MirandaBlu · 25/01/2025 23:19

Love Nina!

But I like Fern, Erin, and Clara too, Maybe think Clara is a little bit too popular. Like Faye a little bit less, but don't hate it.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/01/2025 22:53

I like Clara and Nina , in a similar vein I also like Dora

fartfacenotfatface · 25/01/2025 22:39

Erin or Clara

VenusClapTrap · 25/01/2025 22:28

Fern! Ds would have been a Fern if he’d been a girl.

shoopshoopdedoo · 25/01/2025 15:25

My order of preference:
Nina - love!
Faye
Erin
Clara - bit sickly, very popular on here
Fern - not keen

Agree

GreyhoundGal1 · 25/01/2025 18:25

My order:

Fern
Faye
Erin
Nina
Clara

rewilded · 25/01/2025 18:21

Faye it is a lovely name.

Chickoletta · 25/01/2025 18:13

In order for me:

Clara
Fern
Nina
Faye
Erin

One of the loveliest lists I’ve ever seen on here. Pretty, classic names which work for a little girl and a grown woman.

tulipsunday · 25/01/2025 18:08

Lovely names - I like Erin the best and Fern the least

Luminousalumnus · 25/01/2025 18:05

Fern and Nina are great. The others are not in the same league and Erin and Faye are bad.

penguinfish · 25/01/2025 17:59

Ooh you have great taste! I have a Nina and those names were on my shortlist too. We also liked Sadie.

MumonabikeE5 · 25/01/2025 17:48

Nina or Clara. They sound fresh and lovely .

Katjolo · 25/01/2025 17:46

Fern
