Tale as old as time me and hubby can't agree on names he's more traditional I'm more different

Names I like are Nova, Astrid, Ember and Freya.
He likes Melissa, Maree and Aurora.

I appreciate my some won't like my name choices and that's ok.

I think your names are quite similar so you should be able to find something - have you tried that name app that matches your choices

Or maybe..

Estella
Cassia
Esther
Ida
Thora
Oona
Honor

Just don’t agree to Maree as a first name, unless you’re sure she’s going to live near the loch for her whole life, or she’ll end up endlessly spelling it and explaining she didn’t have crazee parents who wanted a younique version of Marie

Dairymilkisminging · 26/01/2025 03:22

Fair dos 🙂 I get what your saying I'd hate to have to repeat myself all the time with name spelling so she probably would too

Maree is after the Loch a nod to the Scottish heritage. Middle name is very "normal" at Allison after a family member

A lifetime of people spelling her name wrong. The majority of Alison’s use 1 L, and of course everyone will spell it Marie.

It’s irrelevant it’s tied to a loch. That’s really quite irrelevant and just silly.

HugoYorway · 25/01/2025 14:36

@Dairymilkisminging , It still looks like a 'yooneek' spelling.

Dairymilkisminging · 25/01/2025 14:22

Haha thank you. Maree is the name of our local Loch it's a Scottish spelling.

Nova - sounds like Norah with a speech impediment
Astrid - nice
Ember - awful but Amber is OK
Freya - too popular
Melissa - nice but will probably be Mel, could be Lissy
Maree - looks like a bad spelling
Aurora- awful

I'll offer Vanessa (Ness), Flora, Marie/Maria, Norah, Estelle/Estella

Agree with everyone else, your names are actually similar in vibe. (I think of 'traditional' as more like Catherine, Alexandra, Alice, Lucy, Elizabeth, Philippa etc.)

I really like both Melissa and Freya. Astrid, Ember and Aurora are fine, not a fan of Maree (Marie is fine although prefer Maria) or Nova.

Others with a similar vibe:
Leia
Kaya
Clara
Imogen
Ingrid
Juno
Thea
Athena
Amaia
Iris
Hazel
Sienna
Hallie
Remi
Aria

I have a Freya, love it! She's 9 and I can honestly say we've not come across another at school or any clubs/groups we've ever been to with her or her sister. Definitely not too popular where I am. We've come across other Freya's out and about occasionally but mine is the only one at her school! I vote Freya Smile

shoopshoopdedoo · 23/01/2025 20:14

I don’t think his names are particularly traditional! So hopefully you will find something you both like. Agree that the suggestions of Stella and Celeste seem to fit!

Dairymilkisminging · 23/01/2025 20:13

Stella makes me think of the larger unfortunately 😅

Nova OK
Astrid not my taste
Ember not my taste
Freya lovely but popularity would put me off
Melissa no
Maree no
Aurora, love it with Rory as a nickname

Thank you everyone for the lovely name suggestions some that are getting added to my list.

Hubby dislikes sky he says its not a name. I do like the space/star names

Stella? That's both traditional and not too common now and star related.

UninterestingFirstPost · 23/01/2025 20:03

Maeva
Stella (or Stella Maris)
Elin
Noor
Caiomhe
Iseult
Celeste

My husband and I had the exact same issue recently, neither of us were budging and we didn’t like any of each others names. Eventually we has to scrap the lists we had and start again. We banned each other from mentioning the original lists as it was getting us nowhere.
We do now have a name so it did work just took a long time to get there.

Suggestion - Marla or Audra , they sound traditional but a bit different.

You have to find one you both like. You can’t force him into liking yours or strong arm him into picking one he doesn’t like, just like he can’t do the same to you.

So you go round and round until you find one you both like.

In his defence though, you need to actually pick names. “Ember” is not a fucking name 🤦‍♀️

Neither is Maree. Marie is a name though.
