Is it common knowledge that Jesse is the boy spelling?

My baby is Jesse, very happy with his name BUT I assumed everyone knew that Jesse is the boy spelling and Jessie (and others like Jesy) are girl spellings. We had a trip up the hospital the other day (he's now fine), he was in a white babygrow and from nurses/doctors who had seen his notes called him "she" or "they". Is it not something that people generally know?? I'm wondering if this is something he'll be correcting people on his whole life!

Yeah if someone was writing something to me, and said Jesse, I would think 'boy.' And if it was Jessie I would think 'girl.' Not everyone will know though.

The nurses may have seen the notes, but still, some people may not know 'Jesse' is a boy. Like with Leslie and Lesley. (Leslie is male, Lesley is female.) Not everyone knows that.
