Hi Guys, currently in my first trimester, I'm about 3 1/2 weeks pregnant, very excited & awaiting my first midwife appointment.

My Dad passed away in 2021, his name was Edmund (Eddie) Francis and my partners grandad passed away in 2017, his name was James (Jimmy). If I'm having a boy I would love to name him after these two amazing men. So I'm playing with some first & middle names and can't decide if they sound okay or are too much? or if anyone has a different idea ive not thought of, that would be a big help. let me know what you think ...

Eddie James
Jimmy Ed
Eddie Jimmy
Jimmy Eddie
Ed James
James Ed

Edmund James on bc but known as Eddie day to day. We have done this with both children and had no problems with school.

Firebird83 · 21/01/2025 21:13

Edmund James or James Edmund

MattSaracenQB1 · 21/01/2025 08:22

I would go Edward James nickname Eddie just so he does have a name that is actually his very own but Edmund James is lovely too!

user1492757084 · 21/01/2025 08:18

Or James Francis - Jim, Jaffa, JFK - if K is your surname.

Beachs · 21/01/2025 08:01

Jamie is a lovely name if you have a girl

CrimsonVioletTeal · 20/01/2025 10:24

Edmund James (Eddie)
James Edmund (Jimmy)
Eddie James

I don't like the double ie endings of Jimmy Eddie or Eddie Jimmy. I work in education and having just "Ed" as a middle sounds like an abbreviation of "education" to me - Home Ed. / Primary Ed. / Jimmy Ed.

AKettleOfDifferentFish · 19/01/2025 09:22

I'd choose Edmund James or James Edmund personally, both lovely names, but here are my thoughts (FWTW!) on your list:

Eddie James - this is the nicest from your selection
Jimmy Ed - sounds incomplete. Jimmy Edmund sounds better
Eddie Jimmy - awful, sorry!
Jimmy Eddie - even worse!
Ed James - OK but I think there is an author with this name. Actually just googled and there is, plus there is also EL James who wrote 50 Shades
James Ed - sounds incomplete.

Edmund James and call him Eddie.
Both nice solid classic names.
James Edmund is nice too but Jimmy isn't as nice as Eddie.
Schools always ask what they should call the child so they would call him Eddie if that's what you usually used.

Jedmund would be perfect.

Definitely an option

Waterboatlass · 19/01/2025 08:33

Edmund James is lovely as is James Edmund.

Nickname either Eddie or Jimmy, probably becoming Ed or Jim as he gets older. The short versions aren't good, sorry.

Eddie James sounds the best imo.

Agree

user1492757084 · 19/01/2025 08:28

Edmund James. Eddie 10/10
James Edmund. Jim 9/10
What is the surname initial?

BootballJoy · 18/01/2025 22:59

Another vote for Edmund James

LostMyLanyard · 18/01/2025 22:18

Edmund James is a fabulous strong name.

HugoYorway · 18/01/2025 20:46

Jedmund would be perfect.

Aligirlbear · 18/01/2025 20:35

I like Edmund James best. Personally I would give them the full name on their birth certificate but you can then use what ever shortened version you like Ed / Eddie and this will be used at school etc.

The full more formal version of the name on the birth certificate may be helpful when they are an adult in certain circumstances. ( my nephew has a friend who was christened Jimmy and now as an adult he hates it - wishes he had been given the name James for the work environment )

Duckyfondant · 18/01/2025 20:34

Nice middle names, to go with his very own first name.

HonestCrab · 18/01/2025 20:31

Edmund and James are both lovely, timeless names. I suggest giving him the full length names on the BC. You can still call him as you like, but he'll have a more professional name if he chooses to be a barrister, for example.

Schools will call him whatever you tell them to so if you tell them it's Eddie from the start, that's what they'll call him. It doesn't matter what's on the birth certificate.

I think Edmund James sounds fab with Eddie used from the beginning for day to day life

Yeah I do like that, thank you for your input :)

I like Edmund, but prefer Eddie … schools etc will call him by his full name & I just prefer Eddie I think :)

I can see grown man called Jimmy... which is hard for me with Eddie - to me that's always nickname, while Jimmy might be full name. I do like James Ed (favorite) and Jimmy Ed.

I do really like Edmund, why not that?

Eddie James is great! (Assuming you don’t like Edward or Edmund?).

I like Edmund, but just love the shortened version of Eddie, Edward wasn’t anybody’s name but sounds great with James 😂

Edmund James or James Edmund

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/01/2025 20:01

I’d stick with either Edmund James or James Edmund! Both such great names - don’t be tempted to tinker with them! You can use the shortenings Ed/Eddie or Jimmy as your prefer.
