Aziza, Izuka, Iruka and Zikora

They’re girls’ names. What’s your immediate reaction to each of them, please?

They're all meaningful and from our cultures, but - putting that aside - I’m looking for immediate reactions/first impressions.

Aziza and Zikora are both nice, though Zikora might be mistaken for Zipporah/ Tsipora.

The nn Zizi is really sweet.

Because Aziza made me think of the name Azaria!

Izuka and Iruka sound like bazooka and verruca.

The other two are nice, no unpleasant associations with the sounds.

Awful. Setting your kid up for a life of repeating and spelling it all the time.

I have a super common name - think Claire or Katherine - and have to spell it almost every day.

A lot of people won't have heard the names before in the UK but none of them are hard to pronounce.
Iruka is my favourite I think. Izuka reminds me of Isaac so people might think it was a boy's name.
Zikora I don't like as much. Aziza is nice.

I like Zikora. Her nickname could be "Cora" which can be pronounced easily by many here in the west.

PMSL at the idea that us poor Westerners would have trouble pronouncing Zikora but don’t think twice about Francesca, Elizabeth or Alexandra.

They are all lovely OP. Hadn’t heard Zikora before today and really like it. I suppose someone might wonder if the stress goes on the Zi or the Kora (ZI-kora or Zi-KORA).

Same, sorry. Or some sort of ointment. But I think it's just because they're written down like this, I don't think I'd make the association if someone foreign introduced themselves to me with any of these names. If I had to pick I'd go with the last one though; as previously pointed out, the middle two sound too much like verucca and the first like Aviva. Wouldn't have any problems pronouncing or spelling any of them though.

People from non white British backgrounds often have to spell our (first and last) names. Are they all ‘awful’? Should we get rid of cultural names altogether? 🤣
