What does the name Alfie make you think of?

I think its a classic boys name and its one of my current favourites. My husband says he just thinks of Alfie Moon from Eastenders and thinks its a bit of a common name for that reason. I've never watched Eastenders so don't have these connotations! Will everyone else?

I Immediately thought of Alfie from the Shirley Hughes books.

I think it sounds friendly, cheeky and not very bright

What’s it all about, Alfie ?

Lovely names (Alfie or Alfred). I know 2 Alfie’s, both grown men now and both good, honest, and darn handsome!

NancyJoan · 08/01/2025 12:56

Cute name. I would, if pushed, think of the Cilla Black song/the film but never of EE.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 08/01/2025 12:53

I have a 9 yr old called Alfred (Alfie) he is the only one in his school but the are multiple Albies.
I love his name obviously but we do come across a hell of a lot of dogs called alfie, which my son loves btw.

I think of a cockney market trader, but I picture an old man not a young boy!

Lily Allen’s song ‘Alfie’ about her brother, but that’s quite niche I imagine.

“Oh, Alfie get up
It's a brand new day
I just can't sit back
And watch you waste your life away”

Yeah that’s what I think of when I hear the name too!
“how the hell do you ever expect that you’ll get laid
when all you do is stay in playing your computer games”

I know Alfie's of all classes so I disagree that it's solely a balaclava/e scooter name.

It's just very popular which would stop me using it, but it's a good name.

Of course it's not solely a name for scallies. It's just the 2 I know of are. Oh and my friend's dog.

Oh deary me, my little brothers in his bedroom smoking weed🤭

Wampyr · 08/01/2025 12:43

Dogs. It was a very popular dog name for a long time and I live in a dog-heavy part of the UK.

Nextyearhopes · 08/01/2025 12:43

A dog.

I loath all ‘ie’ names on humans.

A street urchin in the 1800s and a cute smallish dog.

Newsenmum · 08/01/2025 12:39

Cute, cheeky little blond boy. I know loads!

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 08/01/2025 12:38

My sister's dog. He is a sweet little chap.

Coopilot · 08/01/2025 12:38

I know 2. They ride scrambler bikes with balaclavas on and their mates are called Lewy, Spencer, Jake and Leon.

Uricon2 · 08/01/2025 12:35

My darling b.1890s grandfather, very much an Alfie and only Alfred when in trouble
It was an "old man" name noone would use for most of my life and it was nice to see it come back on the 100 year cycle.

ladymalfoy45 · 08/01/2025 12:35

' It was fucking biblical,mate'
Alfie Solomon

saveforthat · 08/01/2025 12:34

Michael Caine.

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 08/01/2025 12:34

I think of a shortened version of Alfred. Alfie Moon, Alfie the movie and a dogs name.

littleluncheon · 08/01/2025 12:32

TomatoSandwiches · 08/01/2025 12:25

Alfie, Albie, Archie all the same.

Yes they've kind of become 'naughty boy' names like Connor, Callum, Kyle used to be.

KittenOnTheTable · 08/01/2025 12:30

My cat is called Alfie he came with the name when we adopted him

Purplecatshopaholic · 08/01/2025 12:28

I think it’s a song, although not one I could sing, lol. I don’t watch soaps though. It’s a very common name though so I wouldn’t use it for that reason.
