I think its a classic boys name and its one of my current favourites. My husband says he just thinks of Alfie Moon from Eastenders and thinks its a bit of a common name for that reason. I've never watched Eastenders so don't have these connotations! Will everyone else?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Very common and 'downmarket'

Hellyeahbaby · 08/01/2025 14:29

It's the most popular boys name in the school I work at and most of them are little sh*ts.
Any time I hear the name, in my head I hear Kat slater screaming it

Lurkingandlearning · 08/01/2025 14:15

I immediately thought of a lovely little boy “old for his years” in that very endearing way, with freckles.

Then I read the other posts and remembered Alfy Moon. I wouldn’t let that put me off

Very common round here...
As for stereotype, I know
The Good- DS friend, lovely polite boy
The Bad - nephew, he's just a spoilt brat.
The Ugly- obese kid in the neighbourhood, with curly ginger hair & piggy eyes. He'd probably be ok if he'd loose weight and had a proper haircut.

Michael Caine.

He played the lead role as “Alfie” in the 60s film of the same name. Alfie was a rotter (with charm) and a misogynist.

A cute name I suppose for little boys, but not so much for an adult male.

Wonmoretime · 08/01/2025 14:12

Michael Caine, Jude Law. Philanderer. Overused.

Sunnnybunny72 · 08/01/2025 14:01

A name chosen when you've run out of ideas.

I watch Eastenders but I didn't think of Alfie Moon. I think Alfie is a traditional boys name. Inoffensive. It's nice.

It's the opposite of an elegant classic name! I really dislike it strongly.

Alfred is nice. But I have an allergy to people giving their kids nicknames as their proper name.

Quite common and regularly the "naughty child" along with Archie!

This. It's the Wayne and Kevin of this generation...!

Wendolino · 08/01/2025 13:44

Michael Caine.

Lily Allen’s song ‘Alfie’ about her brother, but that’s quite niche I imagine.

“Oh, Alfie get up
It's a brand new day
I just can't sit back
And watch you waste your life away”

This and then Alfie Allen getting his dick cut off in Game of Thrones 😃

Janedoe82 · 08/01/2025 13:41

Honestly- I think it is a bit naff!

MizzMarple · 08/01/2025 13:38

Niche, but Becoming More Like Alfie by the Divine Comedy. I’ve got it stuck in my head now.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 08/01/2025 13:35

Song by Cilla Black

Nothatgingerpirate · 08/01/2025 13:32

That fluffy brown thing from space who lived with the American family and liked biscuits and roast cat.
Nothing else.
😁

Aligirlbear · 08/01/2025 13:28

As an adult Alfie suggests a bit boyish cheeky chappie / mischievous and not to be taken too seriously - so not sure how well it works in a work environment. Shortened to Alf and makes me think of a great uncle who would be about 106 now !

I think it sort of works for a child ( but very popular and loads around) but as an adult not really.

Think Alfie Moon Eastenders , Cilla Black Alfie - very 60s - sorry

I know 2. They ride scrambler bikes with balaclavas on and their mates are called Lewy, Spencer, Jake and Leon.

This would totally be my first impression. That and a bit of casual shoplifting and terrorising old ladies. Sorry.

My daughter's gorgeous Golden Retriever. 🐕‍🦺🦮🐕 Lovely nature ...a real gentleman ...but not sure this is the vibe you are looking for 🤔

pizzaHeart · 08/01/2025 13:13

first thought : lively dog
second thought: lively 7-8 y.o boy with curly hair
third thought : or is a pet name for Alfred ? I’m not keen on name Alfred much.

disclaimer: don’t watch soaps

ginasevern · 08/01/2025 13:12

It makes me think there's too many kids called Alfie on my council estate. Likewise Darcy for a girl. It's all I bloody hear being yelled by mothers in their PJs in the supermarket.

Hermyknee · 08/01/2025 13:11

Two black labradors I know.
Lovely dogs.

Ilovegermany · 08/01/2025 13:09

I think of the Lily Allen song and Alfie Moon but I still think it is a nice name.

shellyleppard · 08/01/2025 12:16

I think of the children books by Shirley hughes..... Alfie and annie rose. Were a family favourite when my children were young ❤️

Same!
And it's short for Alfred, not a name on it's own for me.
