What does the name Alfie make you think of?

I think its a classic boys name and its one of my current favourites. My husband says he just thinks of Alfie Moon from Eastenders and thinks its a bit of a common name for that reason. I've never watched Eastenders so don't have these connotations! Will everyone else?

Yes unfortunately Alfie from Eastenders but luckily without the accent people would out on Bianca or screech like Rickkkkkky

Trainors · 08/01/2025 16:37

Lots of Alfie’s here. It’s common but not common as in ‘chavvy’. I liked Arthur but didn’t end up with a boy.

Patienceisntvirtuous · 08/01/2025 16:37

My Grandad was an alf.
I still associate it with toddlers. Can't imagine a grown up Alfie.

Sunnyflow · 08/01/2025 16:36

It won't let me post a picture of Alf...

Alf is even worse Shock

Drivingoverlemons · 08/01/2025 16:24

It makes me think of Michael Caine.

'Alf' makes me think of my Grandad, slippers and a pipe.

Plantingtimes · 08/01/2025 16:21

It makes me think of a little blonde boy, probably a bit naughty. Or my friends beautiful golden retriever

My cat is called Alfie he came with the name when we adopted him

Snap. I think of Alfie as a pet's name.

Lemonade2011 · 08/01/2025 16:19

My golden retriever is Alfie, he’s lovely, it’s not a name I hear often now. I have a colleague whose son is Alfie but he’s in teens now I think. I’m a paeds nurse so hear loads of names in my clinic daily (babies - 5yo) Alfie isn’t popular at the moment but Albert ‘Bertie’ seems to be. Magnus too, George and Louis wonder why lol teddy too.

Harry's lad

(insert expletive)

DefinitelyNotMaybe · 08/01/2025 16:13

There's currently a woman yelling it outside my house, along with "Get here now ya little "

Poppy2421 · 08/01/2025 16:11

Wow lots of opinions! To clarify, I was thinking it would be short for Alfred, when he is a kid - so when he is older he could go by Alfred/Al/Alf etc

But I don't want a name that makes people think of council estates and mums in PJs yelling in the supermarket!

Round where I live there are a lot of Alberts but not met any Alfreds yet.

I know two dogs and a cat called Alfie so that's what I think of lol

Spidey66 · 08/01/2025 16:07

I do think of Alfie Moon, and i think the character has made it more widely known. But as the character is generally a likeable character it wouldn't put me off.

WoppingBigBackside · 08/01/2025 16:03

Cockapoo, maltipoo, jackshund.. or a cat. Male equivalent of Bella.

I associate the name with dogs, to be honest. Seems to be a popular dog name.

Yeah dogs

LadyQuackBeth · 08/01/2025 16:00

Cavapoos, cockapoos, possibly a Labrador...

TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks · 08/01/2025 15:58

Alfie and Annie Rose. (Interestingly, at the time the books were written those were very, very old-fashioned and non-typical names, although the characters were supposed to be sort of everychildren).

I admit to not thinking it's a great name for an adult - it's a bit twee. But in 10 years or so it'll be normal to hear it on adults.

Sprogonthetyne · 08/01/2025 15:58

Sorry but to me it will always be a dog or cats name.

The lily allen song about her brother who just sits in his bedroom smoking weed 😂
