Thoughts on the name Briar-Rebecca, I have an incredibly boring name and am surrounded by siblings with unique names they love!
I think briar is beautiful and Rebecca is nice and classic if preferred could be used.
interested in others thoughts.
thanks

Bryre is a nice spelling of it. I'd use Rebecca as a middle name as opposed to double-barrelled.

Neveragain35 · 07/01/2025 17:47

Both lovely names, but as a teacher I can tell you that with hyphenated names the second one almost always gets dropped off. So you may as well just stick to a first name and middle name!

littleluncheon · 07/01/2025 17:46

Briar Rose (from Sleeping Beauty) is better.

Figgygal · 07/01/2025 17:43

Individually both fine
Together not good

minipie · 07/01/2025 17:42

Briar is nice sounding, but spiky meaning, I still like it though

Rebecca is a nice, retro name, due a comeback IMO

Briar-Rebecca is a tongue twister pain in the arse name

I thought briar went with Rose, as it is ia wild rose tree. It does not go with Rebecca particularly.

Naming a person after sleeping beauty is cringey 😄

PLHJ84 · 07/01/2025 17:39

No. Briar isn’t too bad on it’s own & but it doesn’t add well to other names especially not Rebecca - it’s too much of a mouthful. Rebecca is also fine on it’s own. I have a boring name i hate always hated (was loads of us at school & i know a lot of adults with it) BUT it’s better than something like that & whilst i deliberately chose less common names for my kids they all have nice, normal, heard of names!

IfUCantDance · 07/01/2025 17:38

Reminds me of Brer Rabbit

How about Bryony instead?

Came here to say this.

Bryony Rebecca as first and middle name.

PortiasBiscuit · 07/01/2025 17:36

Briar is pretty, Rebecca is pretty.
Pick one.. don’t be greedy.

Moonshine5 · 07/01/2025 17:35

Doesn't work

InkHeart2024 · 07/01/2025 17:35

Laughably awful, sorry

RupertCampbellBlacksEgo · 07/01/2025 17:35

No to the hyphen. The last R of Briar and the start of Rebecca sounds..not great. Can Briar be left as a middle name?

thomasinacat · 07/01/2025 17:34

First thought was briar is a thorny bush - ie prickly and unapproachable. Doesn't have the best connotations.

MinnieCauldwell · 07/01/2025 17:34

Briar is an ugly, thorny hedge, why would you call your child that? Never got the love for Ivy it's an ugly creeping plant.

MistyF · 07/01/2025 17:33

I prefer Briar Rebecca without the hyphen, and I think name has too much R... and bes. do you like another middle name? How about Briar Matilda?

Donttellempike · 07/01/2025 17:32

Looks pretty, sounds clunky. And twee

kate592 · 07/01/2025 17:31

My first thought for some reason was Brer rabbit . 😂

Briar and Rebecca don't seem to go together at all, they don't run nicely and seem like a very clunky mouthful.

Briar is pretty, ramming Rebecca randomly on the end of it for no reason is crazy.

UndergroundOvergroundWomblingFreeby · 07/01/2025 17:31

Bryony is a lovely name instead of Briar.
Briar is a thorny or prickly bush why would you call little girl that?
Bryony Rebecca flows well.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 07/01/2025 17:31

I think hypenated names are not generally a good idea. they often come across as pretentious.

Patty78 · 07/01/2025 17:30

RunSlowTalkFast · 07/01/2025 17:19

Just fyi hyphenated names are generally looked down on.

How rude. Fyi? Who even speaks like that?

AdaColeman · 07/01/2025 17:30

I'd advise getting rid of the hyphen.

As stand alone names Briar and Rebecca are both alright, if rather dated, but they don't really work together, (too many Rrrrrrrrrrs!) and the hyphen makes it worse.

Give your child a chance, don't lumber them with a hyphenated name!

MoodySky · 07/01/2025 17:29

I think Briar-Anne-Bramble flows much better.

Sparkyhasadram · 07/01/2025 17:27

Sounds like a council estate building on the outskirts of Grimsby. Briar-Rebecca Hall
