Nicholas?

Thoughts? To be shortened to Nick but full name to be Nicholas on birth certificate. I love it but doesn’t seem very popular anymore (not necessarily a bad thing!)

Excellent name, and also works/translates in a lot of languages, e.g. Niccolo in Italian.

So underused now and very classic. If you can get past the “Knicker- less” thing (may not be a problem in school now, I have no idea) then it’s a great name. However imo it would be a shame to shorten to boring Nick - Nico or Cole are much cooler 🤣

Unfortunately I'm also someone who automatically hears knickerless. Friends brother was frequently called knickerless throughout school.

was his name shortened to Nick and still had the comments?

Nicky is so sweet!

I know sooo many female Nickys (short for Nicola and Nicole) that i associate it with girls.

sparkleystuff · 04/01/2025 09:28

I love it but I am biased. I have a son with the same name.

Congratulations OP! I love Nicholas. Just in terms of my personal preference I find Nick quite grown-up for a very tiny baby. Nicky or the full name of Nicholas are both lovely while he is little, giving him Nick to grow into if he likes when he is older.

I can’t think of anyone under 40 with the name, i can’t abide nico, so wannabe.

he wouldn’t be called Nico ever. He is Nicholas or Nick!

I know a 10yo Nick/Nicholas. Knicker less stuff has never been a problem. It’s lovely!

Twinklybeam · 04/01/2025 00:29

I love it. Don’t worry about the puerile knickerless thing: honestly, I’m 55 and it’s never occurred to me before this thread.

OnGoldenPond · 04/01/2025 00:25

I have one. He is a lovely 22 year old now Smile

theduchessofspork · 04/01/2025 00:22

Great underused name

I also like Nico as a short form

honeyfox · 03/01/2025 23:07

I had never thought of it, but I really like it.

Costacoffeeplease · 03/01/2025 23:05

I know a Nick (Nicholas officially) in his 60s

Never been called knickerless.

Strong, trustworthy, solid name.

Good choice op

sel2223 · 03/01/2025 22:23

I like it and think it's due a comeback.

I went to school with a few Nicks and don't remember any knickerless teasing

It is the perfect mix of feminine and also really strong. Well known but not too popular/common. Travels well and can be pronounced in many countries and just a really elegant name. Xx

Now if only we can sort out the middle name...

It’s such a lovely name, classic, strong and timeless imo. Never even heard the ‘knicker-less’ thing, perhaps it’s regional?

I love your username 😂!

It's a great name

Good nickname potential.

Classic but not overused.

Doesn't denote social class either which is a good thing imo.

Edited

How interesting! Thank you.

Really like Nicholas. It was on our shortlist (with nickname Nico) had DD been a boy, as she was born on St Nicholas' Day.

LouisvilleSlugger · 03/01/2025 20:45

I like it. Never met a Nick I didn’t like.
