He have a two year old boy called Atticus and a daughter on the way, due in April.
we have a small list that we have agreed on but would love to hear your thoughts and any other suggestions 🙂

So far we have:
Amara
Imogen
Lyra
Ivy
Hazel
Luna
Autumn

Middle name will likely be Rose (I know it is popular but it is after my late grandmother).

Sounds like a seaside bungalow!

Atticus reminds me of a hot and stuffy roofspace as well as Atticus Finch.

With respect, I asked for suggestions and opinions on potential girl names. I did not ask for opinions on my sons name.

TeenToTwenties · 30/12/2024 14:06

Running with same theme: Jean-Louise

Iris
Wren
Primrose
Clementine
Margot
Juniper
Delilah
Dorothy
Tallulah
Juliet
Stella
Eden
Beatrix
Juno
Calliope

Jeeeeez · 30/12/2024 13:28

Every other Ivy will be an Ivy Rose (if not then Grace/May) which makes it dull and overused compared to Atticus.

RedHelenB · 30/12/2024 12:47

Scout

holly1483 · 30/12/2024 12:11

Atticus and....

Sadie
Pearl
Piper
Juno
Clover
Maeve

HoppingPavlova · 30/12/2024 11:44

Scout🤣

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 30/12/2024 11:41

How odd to suggest Finch but not Scout (or indeed Jean-Louise)!

Anyway, from your list, Imogen or Lyra. Amara and Autumn are too matchy with Atticus.

Snowmanscarf · 30/12/2024 11:01

Hazel, Autumn or Imogen from your list.

Other suggestions-
Tilly
Maisie
Marnie
Zara
Ruth
Vanessa
Abigail

CharlotteRumpling · 30/12/2024 10:52

Harper!

UpMyself · 30/12/2024 10:51

Amara - nothingy
Imogen - fine
Lyra - don't like it
Ivy - don't like it, not good with Rose
Hazel - ok but Hazel Rose seems sily
Luna - cat or small non-shedding dog
Autumn - not keen, Autumn Rose too much like a type of flower

I think you need a stronger name, especially with such a common middle name.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 30/12/2024 09:22

Genevieve is a very pretty and usual name, fits with Atticus and has an easy nickname of Evie or Genny/Jenny.

Have you read His Dark Materials? If not, I'd avoid Lyra. To have two children with the names of well know literary characters and not have read the books seems a bit odd. I would presume you were trying to impress me with your literary names, be wondering what it was about those names which particularly spoke to you and be a bit non-plussed if I found out that you hadn't read them (and also curious what you did for GCSE English as I thought everyone did TKAMB!). Perhaps that says more about me than it does about you. I might rule out Rumer on the same basis as the only time I have come across it before was in the context of the author.
I'm another one who finds names after seasons (and months for that matter) confusing when the child is not born in that season.
I like Imogen from the ones you suggested. And my favourite of the others is Genevieve.

I have read His Dark Materials, yes. Not trying to impress anyone, just like the names individually.
I went to a large school and they did different books for different classes. Some did TKAMB, ours did Kes.
I am of course aware of all literary associations but it doesn’t bother me as I reckon 1000s of names will appear in all manner of books 🙂
Genevieve is pretty x

I think Autumn is really pretty.
As a PP has mentioned, amara means bitter in Italian (and it's similar - amarga - in Spanish) which isn't a great connotation.

YouveGotAFastCar · 30/12/2024 08:31

Are you bothered about popularity? Your boys name isn’t too common - Ivy and Imogen are, by comparison. Lyra had a small boost but has settled, and goes well. I do love Autumn Rose! That seems to go beautifully with Atticus. Hazel is really cute too,

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/12/2024 08:30

Amara, Lyra, Hazel and Imogen are my favourites from your list and go very well with Atticus. Ivy is also lovely but very commonly used compared to Atticus. I’d pick Lyra personally 😊
