Do you think of Ellis being a girls or boys name?

(There are people of both genders with the name but wondering what comes to mind)

Both Emily Bronte and Edith Pargeter took it as their male nom de plume (Ellis Bell and Ellis Peters)

Are you mixing up Elis and Elise? They are not related.
Elis is the Welsh spelling of Ellis, or rather, Ellis is the anglicised spelling of Elis. It's from Elias

Elise is a girl's name from Elizabeth

I think Ellis spelling is associated with boys, while Elise spelling is all girls. They have different origins.

Boy. I know one age 26. I think his parents really wanted to call him Elliot but couldn't because of another Elliot in the family.

I know of 2 boys called Ellis

I don't know any girls called Ellis but I do know an Elise which sounds similar I suppose

Definitely boy. 561 new babies called Ellis were boys in 2023 Vs 26 girls.
