Stressing the you and the subjectivity.

I quite like Nessie but it's unusable anywhere that speaks English. Possibly even beyond 😂

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have a Natalie but I have a London accent and she has an Oxfordshire accent, so it is phonetic: NAT-a-lee

How does it sound in a Scottish accent?

Set the scene, council estate, Mother screaming out the window "NAT-TAAA-LAAAYY get in fer yer tea"

(Disclaimer, I was an 80's estate kid with a friend called Natalie 😆).

It sounds lovely with an English accent 😀.

Karen, Alexa, Isis, Myra for obvious reasons.

Natalie as it sounds awful with a Scottish accent.

Iona as the wrong surname can ruin it.

Lysander for me. It's so beautiful but I'd feel pretentious.

Esmeralda for my husband. I think it might be a Pratchett name. He loved it but it still felt a bit 'much' to me.

Llamapolice · 13/12/2024 23:37

I loved Cuthbert and Hubert but could never have used them.

I reckon Myra will come back round in a generation or two. It's inextricable to us but by the time babies born this decade are having their own kids the murders will be nearly 100 years ago.

Dexter - will always be associated with the tv show for me (I might use it for a pet though)

nevertrustanyoneagain · 13/12/2024 23:27

Tituba (a witch)

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 13/12/2024 23:25

I've taught 2 Myras, lovely girls both of them..

I shall add Cleopatra. Although I also taught one of those.

I genuinely love the name Kermit - I think it's sweet on a young child but also strong and authoritative for an adult - but because of that frog..........

TrainsCarsBoat · 13/12/2024 23:19

Verity or Clemency. Love both but we're not posh enough!

Scutterbug · 13/12/2024 23:15

Any flower name (we have a flower surname).

VesperLind · 13/12/2024 23:14

Sharon

Carouselfish · 13/12/2024 23:13

Mara - the giant rat ruined it.

Cornelia

Jack - I actually really like it but it's so common you might as well call them blank.

Myra

Yes, I think the name Myra is beautiful but would certainly never use it.

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/12/2024 23:04

Myra

Geppili · 13/12/2024 23:01

Rollo

I liked Joelle, but pronounced with a soft j. I knew if I chose it, the DD would have been called Jo-elle with a hard j sound.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 13/12/2024 22:58

Ebeneezer.

niadainud · 13/12/2024 22:57

Adolf.

Plus probably also Jimmy, Rolf and Harvey. (I don't particularly like those names, but there's nothing inherently wrong with them.)
