Stressing the you and the subjectivity.

I quite like Nessie but it's unusable anywhere that speaks English. Possibly even beyond 😂

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love the name Gabriel but it’s a bit too religious for us.

Tuppence

An ex used it as a euphemism for vulva...

I see why he is an ex. I hope you told him yours was in fact a guinea.

Adolf.

Plus probably also Jimmy, Rolf and Harvey. (I don't particularly like those names, but there's nothing inherently wrong with them.)

Edited

Jimmy and Harvey are used pretty widely

SanFranByAir · 14/12/2024 02:17

Lots that I'd fear being labelled a pretentious twat or an aging hippie and I wouldn't want my kids to be teased.
Malachite
Balthazar
Ptolemy
Ocean
River
Fox
Octavia /Octavius
Clementine
Liberty
Verity
Aloysius
Sirius
And a whole cast of Elven middle earth type names.

Isis, loved this but ...

Yeah, they really ruined that one! Shame because it is beautiful.

purpletrees16 · 14/12/2024 02:07

My grandmother went by Nessie as a nickname as she was named Georgina after her father (who frankly sounded abusive but it was the 30s/40s) and she hated her “real” name.

She was even born near Inverness.

There’s a few names that could take Nessie as an in house nickname? Real name for school. My parents still call me Mousie indoors.

Delphiniumandlupins · 14/12/2024 02:03

Any names which are also possible characteristics. Grace, Patience, Belle, Honour, Joy (all girl's names I realise) just seem to be tempting fate

Dd2 is 5 months and I really wanted to call her Ocean!
I just couldn't.

elliejjtiny · 14/12/2024 01:36

Jesse for a boy, because he would have to keep explaining that he was Jesse (male), not Jessie (female)

Louis, because people would pronounce it Lewis.

JulianAssangesCat · 14/12/2024 01:27

Candida (yeast infection!)

RacingThoughts111 · 14/12/2024 01:20

Octavia

I know a woman who called her DD Octavia, I absolutely love it but could never name my own DC that 😅

Dustyblue · 14/12/2024 01:18

Mordecai

StrikeForever · 14/12/2024 01:15

Myra

SallyWD · 13/12/2024 23:07

Yes, I think the name Myra is beautiful but would certainly never use it.

i think its fine to use now its been long enough

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 14/12/2024 00:50

Another vote for Jezebel, just love it.

Resisted using it though, twice.

LameBorzoi · 14/12/2024 00:17

Lucifer, even for a cat.

cherish123 · 14/12/2024 00:11

You don't here many Madeleines now (since 2007).

Ohnonotmeagain · 13/12/2024 23:52

Jezebel

Jethro

love them both, but…

ouchwtf · 13/12/2024 23:50

Goebels

Probably similar to Beth, a pretty name, but in South London it's BEFF

See also Esme, which in Manchester becomes Es-meh

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 13/12/2024 23:48

Another vote for Clemency. I wanted to call DD 2 Felicity but it felt pretentious. My favourite names for a boy would have been Alaric or Illtyd but I'm happy with the names we chose for DS2

Set the scene, council estate, Mother screaming out the window "NAT-TAAA-LAAAYY get in fer yer tea"

(Disclaimer, I was an 80's estate kid with a friend called Natalie 😆).

It sounds lovely with an English accent 😀.

I love Winston but just reminds me of Winston Churchill
