Stressing the you and the subjectivity.

I quite like Nessie but it's unusable anywhere that speaks English. Possibly even beyond 😂

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ira.

This gets shortened to ‘Tiggy’ which is quite sweet.

That is sweet, maybe I should have had more courage

Also my favorite name is Anastasia but I always felt it was a bit OTT for an actual child.

Really? I know several Anastasias and think they suit them beautifully!

DeathStarCanteenGal · 14/12/2024 14:25

I love Ariel, but when I suggested it to DH when I was pregnant, he was like 'it's soap powder'
Also love Scheherazade, but it's a big mouthful for a name

Names I consider ‘guilty pleasures’ I’d never us IRL!

Everest
Thor
Clarence
Quentin
Kenneth
Elvis
Finch
Leander
Oslo
Herbert

Pollyanna
Ostara
Sunday
Coco
Pixie
Venus
Olympia
Ramona

I can see why Oslo or Elvis might be unusable.

But what's wrong with Leander, Quentin or Ramona? I know teens/adults called these and never thought of them as weird Confused

I had a pet mouse called Elvis, who was sadly injured. He was caught in a trap... Grin

Octavia

I know a woman who called her DD Octavia, I absolutely love it but could never name my own DC that 😅

What's wrong with it? I know it's a bit on the posh side, and should technically only be used if she has seven older siblings; but it's a nice name.

Is it because of the car?!

Set the scene, council estate, Mother screaming out the window "NAT-TAAA-LAAAYY get in fer yer tea"

(Disclaimer, I was an 80's estate kid with a friend called Natalie 😆).

It sounds lovely with an English accent 😀.

I think it sounds nice in most accents as long as people don't swallow the 't'.

Natalie sounds lovely; 'Na'uhly' is horrid.

RubyBirdy · 14/12/2024 13:12

Annie, but I live in Scotland and the rhyme is too obvious and widely used.

Genevieve was the name of DD's DF's ex-GF which ended badly. Shame, so many nn possibilities.

Isis. Again, a shame.

I had a colleague called Genevieve. It’s a lovely name.

I think the association is still strong in people's minds.

I always liked the name Antigone, pronounced An-tig-onee, but it’s a bit too posh. Also she was a sad character. Maybe I could have used it and stuck with Annie for short

My mums favourite was always Lettice. I have a feeling I was almost Lettice.

Barney. So cute and lovely, but I'm not sure a grown up son would agree.

I know an adult Barney- he’s gorgeous!

I wanted to name DD Lettice, but DH said no.
