Stressing the you and the subjectivity.

I quite like Nessie but it's unusable anywhere that speaks English. Possibly even beyond 😂

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Dexter - will always be associated with the tv show for me (I might use it for a pet though)

They’re also a breed of cattle

Allanah. I love the name but was dhs x and they ended very badly.

Flora both dh and I love it but surname means it's a no go.

My eldest is Alana think it’s pronounced the same but spelt differently.

Dustyblue · 15/12/2024 01:29

Gaylord 😆Bloody hell how could anyone do that to their child?

blueshoes · 15/12/2024 01:08

This one was an 19-yo about 20 years ago! A nice chap. Maybe he was a nightmare toddler tho and hid his past well 😂

Gaylord

I don't mind Mordecai for a cat. But I couldn't bear a son nick-named Mordy!

I quite like Ignatius, and there's one in my son's class known as Iggy. But it's way to catholic for me.

Mordecai

We named our car (cringe, it just happened...) Mordechai, Mordy for short....

Names with less-than-pleasant meanings such as Amelia and Melaena (spelled slightly differently but pronounced the same) are in use, so there may be hope for Candida at some point.

Verity isn’t posh! I put Verity with Donna, Sharon etc
I wouldn’t use it for a baby but not because it’s posh.

It is where I’m from! Nothing like Donna and Sharon, which are traditional working class names.

TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks · 14/12/2024 21:49

I'm another one who thinks Candida would make a gorgeous name.

Also really like both Wolfgang and Amadeus, but they're a bit too much separately, never mind together.

AshCrapp · 14/12/2024 21:45

I love the name Herbert (nn Herb as a baby) but the rhyme Herbert Pervert put me off. I think it's a family guy thing too, though I've never seen it.

LePetitMaman · 14/12/2024 21:45

I adore Eurus. Also spelt Euros. God of the East Wind. Which is pronounced Yure-oss. Until the football tournament and the currency put play to how Euros is automatically pronounced.

Then Sherlock came out and his disturbed maniac sister was Eurus.

I was still clinging onto it, until Lamborghini launched the Urus. Then I had to concede.

DH asked why I wanted our child to be bullied Grin

Verity isn’t posh! I put Verity with Donna, Sharon etc I went to school with several Donna's, Sharon's, Tracey's, Helens and so on, There were no Veritys. It's a beautiful, but unusual name.

Oh really? That’s interesting. We’re Yorkshire and I know a few Verity’s. All over 40.

CadoAvo · 14/12/2024 21:18

I loved the name Isis for years after watching Bring It On as a child. Don't think I could use it though 😅

I think maybe they get better with age. I think I may have met some rowdy toddlers and an older spoiled one, but maybe I have just met a poor cross section. I am willing to give the name some leeway on that score : )

Yes, Mirabel is a variety of plum.

Cute! Like Mirabel, that is lovely. Salzberg has its own Mirabel Garden. Perhaps she should have a date with herself there one day? Its beautiful, unicorns and roses as I remember.

Do you get it?

I knew an old lady called Bluebell many years ago, it suited her well. She was quite dainty with silver hair as I recall.

I think I'd have to shorten it to Bella though, it I had it as a name for a child.

I also know a girl called Plum.

I like Bryony, Kezia, Vashti, Liberty, Fuschia, Mirella, Athena, Lavinia, Shiori, Cecily, Keomi, Hepzibah (Eppie), Ebenezer (Ebbie), Isadora, Amyrillis, Fenella & Yarrow, Rosalie.
