Love Ash as short for Ashley / Asher. Never heard it as a name in its own right but it could grow on me ☺️

I like it a lot but I wouldn't use it (cigarette association as the child of smokers).

That's a fair point. People may assume it's short for Ashley. All the men I've known who go by Ash are Ashleys.
