I still really like Clemency - yes I know everyone hates it?

i love Raphaëlle because it’s one of my favourite characters and I love Raph as a nickname

but was watching a Danish film ans the heroine was Vigga and I really liked it

Calista DH is keen on still
Sigrun he also likes

Vigga sounds far too close to a racist word for me.

I like Calista, nickname Callie. Or you might like Calliope? Also with the nickname Callie

stripeyshutters · 29/11/2024 09:28

Vigga sounds like somewhere EasyJet would fly to.

user1492757084 · 29/11/2024 09:20

Sigrid
Clemence or Clemency - meaning mercy, forgiveness
Gretal

Friso
Figo
Ferdi - Ferdinand

Toomanyvampires · 29/11/2024 08:31

I think Vigga is the villain in the second ghost busters film! Absent pregnancy hormones I imagine you will regret it.

Raphaelle is good (I know 2 both French)
Clemency is fine (Mercy is also a legitimate name so I’m not sure why the meaning causes concern?)
Callister, personally not keen on the sound

MelainesLaugh · 29/11/2024 08:23

What about Vida, similar to Vigga but nicer

ohnonotyetplease · 29/11/2024 08:20

Vigga, not keen.
But Clemency is beautiful. 'merciful' is a lovely trait. Go for it!

ScruffMuffin · 29/11/2024 07:16

I also thought Viagra first.

Vigga is the feminine version of Viggo, which Viggo Mortensen has said is very old-fashioned, and comes across a bit like Oswald.

I like your other choices better.

Gremlinsateit · 29/11/2024 01:52

Some Scandi names are lovely in English, but that is not one of them.

Clemency is fine if you like virtue names - I don’t see that it’s worse than Mercy and it’s better than Chastity or Prudence!

Callista and Raphaelle are both fine.

TheMotherShipAhoy · 29/11/2024 01:43

Names like Sigrun and Vigga feel a bit try-hard if you're not Scandinavian. And a name like Sigrun is a bit niche even in Scandinavia ‐a bit 'grey mists of time'. Not many little baby Sigrun wriggling around anymore.

RogueFemale · 29/11/2024 01:32

It depends where you live. Vigga might be great if you're in Denmark.

In the UK Vigga just sounds harsh and weird.

Ha no Astrid et Raphaëlle French tv show

Love that series! R is iconic

riverwitch · 28/11/2024 22:50

I'm another one that doesn't appreciate the name Vigga, although unlike most, I didn't think of the product name Viagra. However I can't think that it would be a nice name to go through life with.
Calista is a nice name.
Clemency, sounds nice, but....
He'd get Clem, and would likely prefer it.

hiddenselkie · 28/11/2024 18:55

I like Sigrun and Calista the best

Is Sigrid or Callista an option Callisto means most beautiful in ancient Greek. Maybe Saga or Signy?

Saga - Like the travel company for the over 50s?

PrincessAnne4Eva · 28/11/2024 21:59

RoseApp · 28/11/2024 20:52

Vigga is the female version of Viiggo

Ah sorry I thought you were doing a mixed list! 😅 How about Vita/Vittoria? I know it's more Italian but Vita has got a similar sound to Vigga without the negativity?

Emotionallydry · 28/11/2024 21:18

It sounds like what Aldi would call their copy of Viagra to me. I suppose it depends where you live though, I'm in England so it's not a usual name and aldo copying brands is usually 😂

AnotherDayAnotherOutfit · 28/11/2024 20:59

One of the problems with this site is people can't see beyond their own experience of names. So Vigga might be hugely popular in Scandi countries but people who haven't come across it dismiss it as weird.

That said, I personally prefer Raphaelle, Clemency & Calista from your list.

How about Marcella or Honor, they seem maybe your vibe?

RoseApp · 28/11/2024 20:52

PrincessAnne4Eva · 28/11/2024 19:55

What about Viggo like Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn)?

Vigga is the female version of Viiggo

When you say Raphaelle is your favourite character, are we talking Ninja Turtles?

Alifemadelessordinary · 28/11/2024 20:41

It's very masculine.

Calista is lovely.

Snorlaxo · 28/11/2024 20:41

Vigga makes me think of the n slur or the words viagra or vagina. I know that it’s a real accepted name, just from a UK English perspective.

JonathanGirl · 28/11/2024 20:40

I reckon everyone will mishear and think you/she are saying “vegan”.

Which is possibly less negative than the other associations mentioned on the thread, but is more likely to cause confusion Grin.

I can just imagine all the pursed mouths about feeding a vegan diet to a newborn/being a hypocrite having a vegan baby “but I swear I saw her put milk in her coffee at the last NCT meet up.”
And it will follow your daughter through her life (ffs that girl told me she was vegan before even telling me her name, like I care what she eats, these vegans are so attention seeking!)

Don’t do it!

CarrotPencil · 28/11/2024 20:38

PrincessAnne4Eva · 28/11/2024 19:55

What about Viggo like Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn)?

I assumed Vigga is the female version of Viggo and she’s having a girl? Luckily Viggo doesn’t have the same connotations of Vigga, see the many answers on this thread for those.

LadyGabriella · 28/11/2024 20:13

Vada?

PrincessAnne4Eva · 28/11/2024 19:55

MintGlitter · 28/11/2024 19:54

Nobody wants a name they have to explain or spell all the time. I speak from experience.

Vigga?! Just awful.
