@AllHisCaterpillarFriends , the regional accents vary in Welsh but there's a
standard pronunciation.

It doesn't compare to scone because both pronunciations are correct, and because Welsh is phonetic.
If eira was pronounced 'eye-ra' it would be written as aira.

Yvawn · 19/11/2024 14:49

Kay
Gerda
The boy and girl in the Snow Queen.
Some less traditional options:

Not all Welsh folk pronounce it the same way though.
Mother-tongue Welsh speakers would not say it Eye-ra, because it's a phonetic language.
It's like saying snow rhymes with know. It doesn't and it's insulting or ignorant to say it does.

But snow does rhyme with know 😵‍💫😵‍💫

OMGsamesame · 19/11/2024 14:43

What? Snow does rhyme with know.

How is it ignorant - dialects in the same language pronounce things different

dinopants23 · 19/11/2024 14:26

Snowphie and Snowhammed have made me laugh more than they should have 😂
