Baby already 3 weeks old...Emil or Elio?

As the title says really. Very hard for us to come up/agree on boys names, and even harder to pick one.

Emil or Elio? These are our current choices.

We live in France, we are from U.K., Spain, and Ireland. Other boys' names suggestions also welcome!

Felix or Emilio would be my choices.

stuckonnamesbigtime · 18/11/2024 07:43

Felix Emil does flow nicely. We already have a middle name so Felix or Emil will be the first name 😊

Any other preferences for either Emil or Felix?

Thanks all 💜

I prefer Emil, but think Felix Emil flows better

How about Eli?

'Emil and the Detectives' is a fantastic book, so I'd choose that. I used to love books with my name in them as a child 😂

As you said, that is a German book.

'Call me by Your Name' is a fantastic film, which I agree with PP has probably helped Elio grow in popularity.

I agree with your DH that Emilio is a bit flowery.

Another vote for Emil, as I also enjoyed Emil and the Detectives as a youngster!

You gave birth to the baby maybe be more firm with your husband.
Sounds like he's rejecting all your picks.
Felix is lovely.

Don't ignore your gut instinct.

Monday55 · 17/11/2024 23:25

I'd go for Felix. A solid classic name, easy to spell & pronounce and very recognisable in many countries.

If you liked Elio you could've gone for Elliot/Elliott and used Elio as a nickname maybe.

stuckonnamesbigtime · 17/11/2024 23:18

I love Emilio. I don't think I can convince my husband on it though.

I think we will not choose Elio.

Finally, Before we make our very final decision tomorrow, Felix or Emil? This was the other one the list that I also keep coming back to. Husband prefers Emil, I'm not sure which I like more.

Naming this baby is one of the hardest things we've ever had to do!

My friend’s grandson is Emilio which is lovely.

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 17/11/2024 23:01

Emil is lovely

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/11/2024 23:00

I love Elio - it’s derived from Helios the Greek Sun God isn’t it? So definitely a happy, sunny vibe name. I don’t dislike Emil though.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 17/11/2024 22:56

I like Emile. I think Emil is not as nice looking and u think some would pronounce it differently.

Elio sounds like an app to me, or a company. Like a nice word but more of a weight loss app than a child.

Love Emilio- know one who goes by Elmo which is cute

user2848502016 · 17/11/2024 22:35

I like Emil best

How about a combo - Emilio? He can choose nickname when older

Perfect

OtterOnAPlane · 17/11/2024 21:28

I really like Elio!

I pronounce it 'Eh Lee Oh', and I can't think of alternatives?

Like someone else said, it sounds smiley and sunny.

iridescentbloom · 17/11/2024 21:24

I love Elio! Just out of interest how would you pronounce it? X

BootballJoy · 17/11/2024 21:21

Emil

KirstenBlest · 17/11/2024 20:17

If you use Elio it will sound like Ellie O.

stuckonnamesbigtime · 17/11/2024 18:40

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate them. Sounds like Emil is slightly more popular 😊

Emil, definitely. I've liked it since reading Emil and the Detectives as a child.
