Rosalind
such a beautiful name

from the Latin Rosa lindel meaning lovely rose

RogueFemale · 19/11/2024 01:34

My favourites are Sophie, Emma and Alice.

UnderZealous · 18/11/2024 11:51

@Wonmoretime , Elowen doesn't sound like L O N, the stress is on the middle syllable. OP is choosing a different pronunciation.

Wonmoretime · 18/11/2024 10:52

I like Ruby, Rosalind, Alice and Eleanor. Sorry but Elowen sounds a bit like a toddler is trying to learn the alphabet and getting their 'I m n o ' mixed up!

Catlord · 17/11/2024 20:58

Alice, Sadie, Rosalind

Eleanor and Elowen good but not to my taste

I prefer Keira spelt Ciara

Don't like Iley or tbh Ruby or Poppy

Sophie, Emma and Lucy classic and fine but very well used

okydokethen · 17/11/2024 20:27

Sadie is one of my all time favourites

Lucy - like
Ruby - like
Poppy - OK, find it a bit childish
Elowen - not keen
Rosalind - dislike, find it a bit frilly/lumpy sounding, love Rose though
Keira - dislike, don’t find it as classy
Sophie - like
Emma - like
Iley (eye-lee) - dislike, don’t like the sound
Sadie - not keen
Alice - like
Eleanor - like

StressedQueen · 17/11/2024 02:18

Lucy - Really pretty classic, I love it
Ruby - Same as Lucy tbh
Poppy - Very cute and pretty, I actually think it's fine when older but it is a little twee I suppose
Elowen - I really don't like this at all
Rosalind - It's okay but I prefer Rosalie and I think the 2 separate pronunciations would confuse people
Keira - Really lovely
Sophie - Gorgeous but I have a Sophia and it is definitely popular
Emma - So pretty and classic
Iley (eye-lee) - Not good cause tbh the I and the L next to each other capitally just look the same
Sadie - Lovely and gorgeous
Alice - Pretty but a bit plain and popular
Eleanor - Pretty but popular

I think I like all of them apart from Elowen and Iley.

Favourites are Lucy, Sophie, Emma and Sadie

PiggieWig · 17/11/2024 00:03

Rosalind - beautiful name, very elegant on a grown woman, Rosie/Rosa are cute nicknames

trainboundfornowhere · 17/11/2024 00:00

My favourite would be Elowen but as it’s being mispronounced my next favourites would be Alice, Eleanor and Rosalind. I had a unit helper at my brownies a few years ago who was named after Rosalind Franklin and she was known by the nickname Rosie. I also like Sophie however I have bad associations with the name Lucy so I have mixed feelings about it.

TheBirdintheCave · 16/11/2024 23:36

I wouldn't pick Elowen if you're not planning on using the correct Cornish pronunciation.

I quite like Rosalind from your list. You've also got Eleanor there if you want an 'El' emphasis name :)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/11/2024 22:54

I love elegant, patrician sounding Rosalind a lot- it’s underused currently but has some fab namesakes (including the Shakespearean heroine and Scientist Franklin). Only reason it wasn’t on my list was that I really dislike the sound of nn Roz- but if you don’t care about the shortening, this would probably be my pick.

Otherwise I don’t think you can go wrong with Eleanor- absolute classic, again with great historical and cultural namesakes, and fairly timeless without being super popular (but popular enough to be able to get tat with her name on it in the shops as a bonus!). There are so also many diminutive choices to boot - she can really make it her own as Nell is a very different style to Ella or Leni or Nora etc.

Alice, Sophie and Emma are also very nice and in a similar style to Eleanor, I just don’t find them quite as interesting for some reason. Elowen and Keira are pretty but might have spelling issues as they are much less commonplace.

I have an irrational dislike of the sound of classic Lucy 🤣 (so sickly to me) and find Poppy very cutesy. Ruby and Sadie are retro passé imo (except on a pet) and Iley is going to be a spelling nightmare (the one I know with the name spells it Eily if it helps).

miniaturepixieonacid · 16/11/2024 22:53

Lucy - quite like it. Not very exciting but a good, solid name.
Ruby - nice enough. I wouldn't choose it.
Poppy - seems a bit twee for an adult but there will be millions of adult Poppys soon (possibly already are) so it will seem normal to them. Sweet for a child.
Elowen - really like it. Pretty and unusual.
Rosalind - Very elegant. Seems a bit much for a small child but Rosy or Lena would be cute diminutives if desired.
Keira - like it. Don't meet many.
Sophie - like it. Popular but for a reason.
Emma - like it. I used to think it was boring but now it seems fresh and stylish.
Iley (eye-lee) - Never heard or seen this. Sounds like a cross between Isla and Ellie or something. I don't like it particularly.
Sadie -- Love it. Quirky and cool while also being sweet and a real name.
Alice - quite like it. Not very exciting but a good, solid name.
Eleanor - like it but I'd be keen to avoid Ellie.

My favourite is Sadie.

SkaneTos · 16/11/2024 22:32

Lucy, Ruby, Poppy, Elowen, Rosalind, and Sadie are the names I like best from your list, but they are all good names!

Dixierun · 16/11/2024 22:31

Poppy
