3rd boy help!!!

K4tieT · 15/11/2024 20:52

Hi, reaching out for more input please and some random suggestions for 3rd boy due in 7 weeks!

Sibling for Edward & Henry but thinking a bit wild card this time and using a name I wasn’t brave enough to go for previously!

shortlist so far:
Rupert
Percy
Barney
Rufus
Caspar

Don't want to go with the obvious George, Arthur, James, William etc!

any ideas very welcome, thank you!

Rupert - this is so unexpectedly popular in my area. I have a baby so meet lots of other babies and can't believe how many baby Ruperts, toddler Ruperts, babies with older siblings called Rupert, I've met. Maybe it's just my area but it was really unexpected

Percy - it's OK. I prefer Percival but accept I will be in the minority with that. It makes me think of Sir Percival from King Arthur, whereas Percy makes me think of Percy the park keeper, a nice fellow though

Barney - like Barnaby shortened to Barnes, not so keen on Barney, it makes me think the flintstones

Rufus - love it, it was my boy name if dd2 had been a boy. There is one in the upper part my kids school (year 5 i think) but hes the only one ive come across.

Caspar - not a fan, think friendly ghost. There are lots at my kids school though. Lots of Eastern European kids so it's a popular name

Can I suggest:

Tobias
Nathaniel
Jude / Judah
Jonah
Lawrence nn Laurie
Gregory - not met a baby Gregory
Micah
Vincent
Samson
Elliott
Otis

As a mum of teens, I don’t think my kids would thank me for calling them some of these names! I think Casper works really well for all ages, and also passes the cool teen test!

How about Reuben instead of Rupert or Rufus? Or do you like

Max
Rory
Jasper
Toby
Felix
Stanley
Austin
Miles
Robert / Bobby
Albert / Bertie

The OP's child won't be a teen for over 10 years though, so if the names are popular enough now they won't be weird later.

This is really proof how name trends move on. I live in an an incredibly conservative, middle England town, and know someone with all of OPs out there names (which aren't out there in the slightest).

PurBal · 16/11/2024 07:17

Robert
Laurence
Adam

Rupert is okay but I think the other 4 sound like a pets name when put together with Edward and Henry.

MerryMarys · 16/11/2024 07:15

I like Caspar and Rufus or how about Quentin?

I don't like the sound of Rupert at all, I think it's the Pert part.

We're in London know lots and teen boys with these names - we have one ourself!

HettyCletter · 16/11/2024 07:11

I’m also pregnant with my third boy and like all of your shortlist!

I think Rupert and Caspar work best with your other two.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 16/11/2024 06:32

I like Rupert and Caspar best from your list.

I think a lot is area dependent too. Our shortlist isn’t that unusual where we live in SE London/Kent border.
we did consider Reuben for a while but it wasn’t sticking like Rupert!

Yes that’s an interesting point- I haven’t heard any of those names used around me.

Fintoo · 16/11/2024 04:12

Love Rufus!

user1492757084 · 16/11/2024 03:19

I love Rupert and I like Rufus and Caspar.
The others are not as handsome as Edward and Henry, sorry.

Edward, Henry and Rupert.

Other suggestions:
Lachlan
Dougal
Duncan
Derek
Fergus
Neville
Angus

shoopshoopdedoo · 16/11/2024 00:24

I’m not much help because I love most of your “too safe” list, especially George and James. Also love the suggestions of Alexander and Robert, which are also probably not what you’re going for 😂.

I can’t say I love any of the other choices, though I think I’d pick Percy from the list. None of the Rupert’s I’ve met have been characters I’d want to remember, so that might be influencing me! Caspar is my least favourite.

ButtonMoonBlanketSky · 16/11/2024 00:16

Rupert for sure 💙

Ps. Both the names you’ve chosen mean wealth in some way
wealthy guard = Edward
house ruler = Henry

similar sort of names are
Frederick = peaceful ruler
Alexander = protector of men

Rupert = fame glory honour and godlike ! ….blimey that’s a good one

Your other choices OP aren’t really of a similar meaning to your first two children Rufus for egs means red haired

Checking the meanings might be a way to whittle down your choices which is what we did.
Our 3 boys are all named after great libraries and also have meanings reflecting protection, love and peace.

Thank you! I love the meaning of Rupert too!
my youngest Henry is definitely the ruler of house 🤣🤣

You can't have three Thomas the Tank engine names

The older boys are king names rather than trains but thanks! Tbh Thomas the tank have soooo many names and new characters it’s hard to avoid!

I like Warwick ( pronounced like the place obviously)
Angus is a fave too
Monty ( longer version if you like something more official )
Mungo ( ditto )
Fred ( Frederick )
Stanley ( although it would make me yearn for more The Detectorists )
Seb ( Sebastian )

Ps I know kids with all these names, now all in their 20s.

Thomas or James

NotMyFirstUsername1 · 15/11/2024 22:40

Rupert or Caspar are perfect as a bit of a “braver” choice whilst still complimenting your older two.

I also think these would work:
Oscar
Albert
Barnaby
Felix
Theodore
