K4tieT · 15/11/2024 20:52

Hi, reaching out for more input please and some random suggestions for 3rd boy due in 7 weeks!

Sibling for Edward & Henry but thinking a bit wild card this time and using a name I wasn’t brave enough to go for previously!

shortlist so far:
Rupert
Percy
Barney
Rufus
Caspar

Don't want to go with the obvious George, Arthur, James, William etc!

any ideas very welcome, thank you!

I'd be quite careful about going too posh if you can as the other two are a bit more mainstream and they might want to move away! I'll suggest a few that I love anyway, all kings obviously.

William
Alexander
Tristan
Ambrose
Idris
Iago/Jago
Marcus
Augustus
Magnus
Constantine
Hector

Congratulations on your third musketeer, having three boys is lovely 😊

I am so curious to know the libraries you named your sons after! What a lovely idea

Mm
I don’t want to give myself away
But two of the names are above and the other
Is Benedict.
ie the Benedictine libraries one of which is the worlds largest monastic library.

It also means The Blessed one

Ps. Both the names you’ve chosen mean wealth in some way
wealthy guard = Edward
house ruler = Henry

similar sort of names are
Frederick = peaceful ruler
Alexander = protector of men

Rupert = fame glory honour and godlike ! ….blimey that’s a good one

Your other choices OP aren’t really of a similar meaning to your first two children Rufus for egs means red haired

Checking the meanings might be a way to whittle down your choices which is what we did.
Our 3 boys are all named after great libraries and also have meanings reflecting protection, love and peace.

Edward, Henry and Joseph?

charltonred · 17/11/2024 15:22

Rupert or Barney are great from your list, they seem to fit better with Edward and Henry too over the other ones

BootballJoy · 17/11/2024 14:04

I don't think your wildcard names are 'out there' at all! Caspar is a great name. Quite like Rupert too.

Some random suggestions: Felix, Eric, Alistair, Conrad, Tobias, Robin, Xander, Ambrose, Louis, Tristan, Edmund, Otis, Cedric, Peter, Adam, Anthony, Benedict.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/11/2024 02:27

Could you not go wildcard with the middle name/s instead - go completely crazy with something like Horatio or Ptolemy etc to your hearts content? 🤣

It’s just that while I don’t think siblings have to match exactly, it does seem a bit unfair that his brothers get names that are popular (can get tat with their names on easily in shops, no spelling difficulties etc), internationally very well known/used, and impossible to tell age or background of them- but DS3 gets something without those benefits. He may love having a name that stands out more of course, but if he turns out to be a shyer/ introverted child…

Despite that, I admit of your list I do like elegant Caspar and quirky Rufus, though I find Barney childish sounding, Rupert wet and Percy nerdy, sorry 🤣

But maybe there’s a halfway house, if you don’t want to go Kingly anymore? (although I still think something like Alexander would fit right in - you could go unusual with the nn instead and go for Lex or Xand). Maybe also consider something classic but not quite as popular like Nathaniel, Owen etc?

RedRobyn2021 · 16/11/2024 19:19

I love the name Barney but they're all nice

CalliopePlantain · 16/11/2024 13:18

Benjamin would be my pick for a ‘not matchy but sounds nice together’ name

ainkeepsfalling · 16/11/2024 13:12

Percy is terrible, he won't thank you for that. Have you never heard the phrase "point Percy at the porcelain" for males having a wee 😂

BibbityBobbityToo · 16/11/2024 12:38

You could stick with King's e.g Charles, Albert

Or continue with Thomas The Tank Engine - Thomas, Gordon, Toby (or Tobias for 'posh'), Harold

Finally and my personal favourite, go for James then you have Kings and trains combined.

BaronessBomburst · 16/11/2024 12:33

I like Rupert.
If you wanted to stick with kings, then Stephen* could be an option.

*I'm team Matilda.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 16/11/2024 12:31

From your list I would choose Rupert

vegaspotty · 16/11/2024 12:27

Laurence or Sebastian
Laurie and Seb

BoleynMemories13 · 16/11/2024 12:24

I'm going to be honest, your list is far from my taste. Casper is the best of the bunch but it really doesn't go with the ultra traditional Edward and Henry. Rupert is probably the best match on your list, it's just not a name I personally like.

I think you need a middle ground of traditional but not popular. Something like Lawrence or Christopher would fit nicely. Possibly something like Dominic or Sebastian could work, or maybe go biblical rather than royal (or tank engine!), such as Zachary, Jacob or Benjamin? Joseph would go beautifully too.

If you want something a bit more 'in', what about Miles? That's currently quite popular but not such an obvious choice with Edward and Henry. If you want to go 'old school' (like Percy but without the tank engine link), I think Stanley would go well, or Frederick. Maybe Francis nn Frank?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/11/2024 12:20

Edward. Henry and Zachary. Jacob. Julien. Patrick. Otis. Sebastian. Lucas. Wilbur. Conrad. Roman. Kieran. Dexter. Ivan. Tobias. Cedric. Malachi. Xavier.
Arlo. Miles. Clark. Jonah.

K4tieT · 16/11/2024 11:49

Thank you so much everyone, really helpful!

I think Rupert is the front runner here with Percival (Percy) and Barnaby (Barnes) close behind!

I think you can find an association with any name, probably best not to overthink and just go with your gut!

mrspresents · 16/11/2024 10:05

Rufus and Barney I only know as oberused dogs names. Percy will have the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends jokes. Rupert reminds me of the derogatory term in the army. So I'd say Casper the friendly ghost wins!

Potentiallyplausible · 16/11/2024 09:14

Rupert is my favourite.

Miles
Guy
Rafe
Conrad
Hugh

Benedict
Marcus

AllFours · 16/11/2024 09:00

Definitely Rupert!

A great name that goes well with his brothers’ names. Congratulations!

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/11/2024 08:55

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 16/11/2024 07:55

The OP's child won't be a teen for over 10 years though, so if the names are popular enough now they won't be weird later.

Yes that’s true - I didn’t realise they are getting popular in some areas, they aren’t really used for babies round me (that I’m aware of).

GreyhoundGal1 · 16/11/2024 08:16

I love the name Caspar. Also really like Percy and Rupert. They're my faves of your list.

Nicebloomers · 16/11/2024 08:09

Great list. Like all of them to a degree but prefer Rufus or Rupert (or Barnaby rather than Barney). Percy is a great name but not as simpatico with your other 2 kids names as the others imo. Caspar is my least favourite.
