Considering the name Axel its scandinavian and means "father of peace" to go with the sirname "Bas" so "Axel Bas" any opinions welcome , Thanks

I automatically think ""Axel Rose" - only time I have come across it.

It isn't a name I would choose personally.

However, if you like it, use it.

belgo · 28/04/2008 13:28

We've been considering Axel (it's also common in Belgium). We've decided against it though, wanted something a little more classic.

MrsMattie · 28/04/2008 13:24

revolting

Becky77 · 28/04/2008 12:00

Too aggressive sounding for me I'm afraid.

beforesunrise · 28/04/2008 10:42

I LOOOOOOVE IT!! had simultaneous crush in high school on Axl Rose (yes, i know i know) and gorgeous visiting german boy called Axel. so v positive associations have remained.

my dh (who is austrian) is totally against it though, he says it sounds like "armpit" in german.

what a minefield...

AHLH · 27/04/2008 17:05

Like it. Had a childhood friend called Axel, spent his entire childhood explaining that he wasn't called Alex though. Some dozy teachers even called him "Alexander" when he was in trouble.

Noooo - Axel F is the name of the Beverly Hills Cop theme tune that Crazy Frog 'covered'.

NutterlyUts · 26/04/2008 20:16

Axel F = Guy behind crazy frog. . .

Othersideofthechannel · 26/04/2008 20:13

Axelle for a girl.

BroccoliSpears · 26/04/2008 20:08

It's my French SIL's middle name. Not sure how she spells it though.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 26/04/2008 20:05

I really like it and suggested it for DC4 - which is a bit odd because I'm very trad with names. As long as ABas doesn't translate badly.

However, our surname begins with an F, so would be Axel F. Cue endless Beverly Hills Cop music.

B1977 · 26/04/2008 20:02
  1. that they were German or Scandinavian
  2. The Gruffalo
  3. Beverley Hills Cop

but I think it is quite a nice name!

llareggub · 26/04/2008 19:36

It makes me sing the theme tune from Beverley Hills Cop.

lilQuidditchKel · 26/04/2008 19:36

another one for Guns n Roses.
also if it's shortened to "axe"
a bit horror film
but still i like it!

Blueskythinker · 26/04/2008 19:35

My nephew is called Axel - we love it! Very cool. He gets Ax for short.

I love it!!

MargaretMountford · 26/04/2008 15:31

I thought of Axel Scheffler of the Gruffalo etc ( and a very fine illustrator he is too)

Janni · 26/04/2008 15:24

Heated - that is a fantastic nugget of info. Thanks for that.

Umlellala · 26/04/2008 14:47

I like it! a lot.

In fact, would nick it but we have our unusual-name-that-lots-of-people-hate lined up already (Skyler - and no, we don't care if people think it sounds made-up /chavvy/corporate/whatever )

Heated · 26/04/2008 14:35

But the point is that whatever name you give your child, they come to inhabit the name anyway. So when ppl think of Axel they'll think of your son and not any other connotation. And Axel Bas works.

popsycal · 26/04/2008 14:33

I think of Guns and Roses

Then cars

LyraSilvertongue · 26/04/2008 14:29

I never knew that, heated. Thanks. I think.

Heated · 26/04/2008 14:27

oral sex

seeker · 26/04/2008 14:27

I don't know - it just looks like one. Like that antique expert on the telly called Lars Tharp!
