As in title what do y'all think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It’s giving Ruby and Garnet from Double Act! I don’t like it OP, sorry.

Omg that book 🤣 Looks lighthearted but was pretty depressing if I remember correctly, I think I read it when I was about 10!

That said, I do love Ruby and Jade together. I met someone with twins Ruby and Poppy which I also thought was a cute red theme.

LittleHangleton · 05/11/2024 20:14

Jade is less 'precious' than Ruby. This would put me off. I like matchy-matchy though.

Ruby and Scarlet
Daisy and Poppy

mum1345 · 05/11/2024 19:58

Ruby is a very pretty name.
My 3 year old is called it and often gets positive comments on it.
It's definitely no where near as popular as it was early 00s
I am yet to come across another one her age in preschool, baby group etc so don't let popularity deter you.

I'm not so keen on Jade but I do think they work well as a pairing though! If you love them go for it!

One of our children had three girls in his primary class called Ruby. There was a lot if singing Ruby, Ruby, Ruby lala la lala. I wouldn't just for that reason.

Very outing, but 17/18 years ago,28 of us school mums all fell pregnant around the same time (the births where all between the july to the sept)

27 where girls-one boy

All where called Ruby, bar my dd and my friends dd

The Kaiser chiefs have a lot to answer for!

It's a nice name-i work with one but it's massively overused

Bubblebuttress · 05/11/2024 18:35

Love the gem names

Ruby Jade Pearl Amber

Princessfluffy · 05/11/2024 18:27

I had aunts who were sisters called Ruby and Pearl.

EducatingArti · 05/11/2024 18:26

To be fair, I know 5 year old identical twins and the reception teachers are finding the different colour hair bobbles really helpful. The colours don't match their names though!

Nikitaspearlearring · 05/11/2024 18:25

I like Ruby and Jade. I don't think they're too matchy. In the olden days ( in my youth) twins were given really matchy names like Milly and Molly, so I think you're fine.

Congratulations, by the way. I have twins and the first year was bonkers! But worth it in lots of ways xx

FoxLoxInSox · 05/11/2024 18:22

Too matchy / gimmicky
Too 90’s
Jade slightly tacky
Red / green hair bows = 🤢

Skybluepinky · 05/11/2024 18:19

Very 90’s, what are the other options?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/11/2024 18:17

Too matchy, unless maybe, you're a geologist or jeweller. When it becomes matchy and twee.

DD was once friends with sisters called Scarlett, Ruby and Sienna. I thought that was a bit matchy too.

user2848502016 · 05/11/2024 18:11

I like Ruby but not keen on Jade. Also think they're a bit "matchy"

GoldenLegend · 05/11/2024 17:57

I think they’re lovely! I love the jewel names: Beryl, Opal, Topaz are all lovely too.

StressedQueen · 05/11/2024 17:49

I think it's lovely. It does also remind me of the Jacqueline Wilson book - Ruby and Garnet are both red jewelled names though. I also don't think it is too matchy at all. I know they are both jewels but they are also very well known as names. Also the red and green ribbon thing might be nice tbh to tell them apart! For my twin girls, it worked, because they liked the complete opposite colours haha.

AddictedToBooks · 05/11/2024 15:40

I think they're beautiful together.

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/11/2024 15:39

Go for it. I really like them, Jade is my favourite.
Ruby and Jade <3

Also like the Jade and Hazel suggestion above.

Comedycook · 05/11/2024 15:31

They sound ok together.

Ruby is one of my faves.
Jade is a bit 90s imo but nice enough

JaninaDuszejko · 05/11/2024 15:30

MumonabikeE5 · 05/11/2024 14:46

Go for it.
Amber, Opal, Pearl would also be nice options.

i like that with Ruby and Jade you’d have easy colour coding of possessions etc

Not Ruby and Pearl. There's twins (one of whom dies young) called that in a well-known novel.

TheBeesKnee · 05/11/2024 15:30

Ruby and Poppy?

Ruby, Rose, Sienna, Saffron (Wink)

I knew a Jade who wasn't very nice so I'm prejudiced against that name.

StormingNorman · 05/11/2024 15:28

Slightly cheesy naming them both after stones.

loropianalover · 05/11/2024 15:27

Mumofgirls2017 · 05/11/2024 15:25

Too twee for me but personal taste. Also find Jade quite dated these days. I’d choose

Ruby and Iris
Ruby and Cora
Ruby and Stella
Ruby and Rose
Ruby and Lily
Ruby and Isla
Ruby and Sadie
Ruby and Mia
Ruby and Elsie
Ruby and Molly

Love all of these options but I’d keep Jade instead of Ruby 😂 Cora, Stella, and Molly are particularly nice.

vegaspot · 05/11/2024 15:26

I like Ruby but Jade is very dated .

Hideous. Also, they’re people, not a gimmick.

happytobee · 05/11/2024 15:22

One of my favourite childhood books had twins called Ruby and Garnet, I always preferred the name Garnet over Ruby though personally
