It’s giving Ruby and Garnet from Double Act! I don’t like it OP, sorry.

Thanks! I was just thinking the same thing and it was at the tip of my tongue. I actually like Ruby and Garnet as names. Not sure if I’ve heard of Garnet IRL. Ruby and Jade are both 4 letters and nice and simple so @Williamclimbseverest should go for it. Another vote also for Iris and Jade. If colour names are the reason for choosing Ruby and Jade, I’d also like to suggest Sienna and Scarlett.

I think Amber is prettier than both, but Jade in particular has quite a harsh sound to me.

UltramarineViolet · 06/11/2024 22:35

I am probably making a huge generalisation @Williamclimbseverest but both the girls in my year at school who had a baby before GCSEs called their baby Jade!

Very true @Scrimt

I quite like Jade. I like its simplicity and think it's a shame it's seen as being a bit downmarket these days. When Mick and Bianca were naming their daughter I'm sure it was seen as modern and bohemian.

When Jade Jagger was born it would have sounded very fresh and cool. It is still a fundamentally lovely name but the fact it was the teenage Mums' name of choice in the early 90s has definitely adversely affected how people perceive it as a name now.

Haha was it really? I'm late twenties now but I was 16 when my older child was born guess I never grew up 😂

I know sisters Ruby and Sapphires and Ruby and Amber.

I like Ruby and Jade. At least they don't sound similar.

They are lovely. I know a fabulous Jade in her late teens so I it reminds me of her. Also in Sofia the First (on Disney junior) Princess Sofias best friends from the village are Ruby and Jade so reminds we of watching it with DD.

princessrapunzel · 06/11/2024 21:53

My nanna was a triplet and they where called pearl, ruby and diamond, everyone loved their names. I think ruby and jade are lovely, they sound different but have the lovely link

getthosetitsup · 06/11/2024 20:36

Throw in an Amber and you have a set of traffic lights 😆

I have known a few siblings with some combination of the 3 names over the years - and one set of all three.

Maybe they're both chavvy then!

Probably based on the people we’ve known with the name.

Therunecaster · 06/11/2024 19:47

Jade is a beautiful name

schoolsoutforever · 06/11/2024 19:25

Jade seemed to be a very 80s-90s name and I haven't heard any babies named that recently, whereas Ruby is very noughtes-10s and most girls called Ruby I know are late teens. I kind of like Jade but it might be seen as a little tacky by some. Personally, I don't really like Ruby as it is very common in the age group I teach (similar to Lily in that respect), otherwise it's OK.

girljulian · 05/11/2024 14:49

I like Jade, but Ruby sounds trashy to me.

Funny how personal taste goes, isn't it? I feel the same about Jade, but I like Ruby.

pilates · 06/11/2024 18:57

I prefer Ruby and Pearl
Dislike Jade

itsgettingweird · 06/11/2024 18:40

I know siblings called Ruby and Jade!

But yes Amber is lovely too and I'd opt for

Jade and Amber.

But I do love the name Ruby too.

I also like Scarlet which is another colour option!

CaveMum · 06/11/2024 18:39

Don’t go for “matching” names, they are individuals not a pair. My mum is a twin (identical) and she always tells me how grateful she is that her parents gave them both different name “styles” - one traditional, one a bit more modern (well, modern in the 1950s!).

Lavenderflower · 06/11/2024 18:37

I like them both but they belong to different generation - I would say Ruby is more early early 2000's to now whereas I think Jade gives more of 80's to 90's. On that basis I don't think the names match for twins. If was a singleton, I think either could work.

Scrimt · 06/11/2024 18:35

I quite like Sapphire but I can't imagine it on a quiet, bookish type. Such a 'big' name.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/11/2024 18:34

DS was at school with a girl called Sapphire. I've also met a Crystal and a Coral.

JustinThyme · 06/11/2024 18:28

Behind The Scenes At The Museum and Double Act - just no.

Theme names is fine for your pets but not your actual offspring.

If you had a boy, would he be Jasper?

Scrimt · 06/11/2024 18:23

I really like them

RareMaker · 06/11/2024 17:24

My daughters names!

RainbowConnection1 · 06/11/2024 17:23

I used to know a woman with 3 girls, Ruby, Jade and Amber!

girljulian · 06/11/2024 17:13

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/11/2024 15:54

I was thinking the other way round

Maybe they're both chavvy then!
