current list is

It sounds like you're in a bit of a dilemma, trying to find the perfect name for your baby! Choosing a name is a big decision, and it's great that you have a shortlist to work with. Here are some suggestions and thoughts on each of the names you’ve mentioned:

  1. Noah – A classic and timeless name, Noah is popular but still carries a lot of warmth and charm. It's simple, yet meaningful, and could be a good choice if you're looking for something gentle and widely liked.
  2. Kai – Short, modern, and unique, Kai has a cool, international feel. It's a great choice if you’re looking for something that feels fresh and versatile, with meanings tied to "sea" in Hawaiian and "victory" in various cultures.
  3. Alexander (Alex) – A strong and traditional name, Alexander comes with a rich history and many nickname options (Alex being a very popular one). It’s a name that feels both classic and royal but has the flexibility of a more laid-back version in Alex.
  4. Caleb – This name has a biblical origin and a warm, approachable sound. It has been gaining popularity in recent years, and like Noah, it carries a sense of tradition mixed with modern appeal.
  5. Leo – Simple and powerful, Leo exudes strength and bravery. It’s a shorter name that packs a punch. It could be a great choice if you're looking for something that feels strong but not too common.
  6. Felix – Felix has an old-fashioned charm with a touch of quirkiness. It means “happy” or “lucky,” which is a lovely sentiment to attach to a baby. It’s uncommon but not too out there, making it a nice balance.
  7. Milo – A fun and friendly name, Milo feels youthful and lighthearted. It has a classic vibe, yet is still relatively rare, making it a great choice if you're looking for something a little less mainstream.

If none of these feel like "the one" just yet, it might help to think about the style you want the name to convey—whether you lean toward something more traditional, modern, or unique. Sometimes, stepping back and focusing on the sound and vibe of the name can make all the difference.

Solomon is an excellent suggestion. Sol for short.
I do think Sonny is unlikeable. I don’t want to call other people’s sons ‘Sonny’. They’re not my son.

Kai doesn't fit with the others which are all lovely especially Felix and Milo.
How about :
Barnaby
Jasper
Rory
Roly
Nathaniel
Dominic
Sebastian
Rufus
Hugo
Raphael/Rafe

I can’t work out what my vibe is either!
I did like and either I or DH discounted River, Taylor, Phoenix, Ocean etc.
Think since I posted have knocked off Felix.

We've got very similar name tastes and my DS is on your list!

Other suggestions: Koa, Sol, (Solomon), Sonny, Christian, Oscar, Luca, River, Harrison.

Admittedly, these a felt a bit too "cool" for me, but you've listed all my "safer" choices already.

HammeredMetallic · 07/11/2024 10:23

Last night we went through the entire list down to those that were only given to 5 children in 2022. Nothing feels to fit still! Hoping it will become apparent when he’s here what fits. Always imagined something would just be obvious or people have had names picked before they are even conceived etc
