Emery wasn't well received so we took it off our list. These are the names still on our list, including the two new additions Lucy and Holly, and some of my worries, but I'm probably overthinking it. Let me know, what you think, please:

Keira - only thing I'm slightly worried about is that people might spell it Ciara or Kiera or that it sounds a bit dated. Otherwise I love it.

Everly - didn't get a good reaction from many people.

Sophie - might be not so nice for her to have a name so popular among the current mum-generation? I do love the sound of it.

Ruby - similar to Sophie as there will be lots about 20 years older than her, though not exactly mum-generation yet.

Poppy - I love this, but people have told me it is immature or that it reminds them of a nickname for a grandparent.

Isabella "Bella" - we don't like Izzy, but I guess if we introduced her as Bella this wouldn't come up.

Lucy - still slightly worried about the awful murder cases and whether the name is now strongly associated with it. But we love the sound and meaning.

Holly - lovely, but maybe also a bit dated?

So this is the list, without my comments. I would appreciate comments from you:

Keira
Everly
Sophie
Ruby
Poppy
Isabella "Bella"
Lucy
Holly

I'll read your comments and reply and then probably just take a few weeks to think about it and find out which one feels right.

I like all your names OP, none are offensive or have bad connotations in my opinion.

I think Lucy is too well known to just be associated with the latest murder case and Keira, I think people would think Keira Knightly so should spell it correctly

Love Poppy. I have one! She is 20yo. Soooo many people have commented on her name growing up. Saying what a lovely name it is. It does really suit her though.

I also have an Isabel Lucy. Love them both.

Holly is nice too.

Tbh I think all your names are nice (except Everly or whatever it was!! )
They are all from the same 'mould' so I think just go with you're favourite 🤩

Firsttimebabymummy · 01/11/2024 20:52

From your list, I'd only consider Lucy and Holly for my own child.

Lucy is my favourite, followed by Holly.
Sophie is OK.

GiraffeTree · 01/11/2024 19:59

I like Sophie, Holly and Poppy best.

So do I! She was the only one in her primary school the whole time she was there. I’ve loved the name Lucy since I was a little girl so knew i had my girl name sorted. 13 is a wonderful age isn’t it? ( said dripping with sarcasm) 😂

Yea I think mine is the only one in her school, I loved it because of 50 first dates!
and also it’s a classic but not to old if that makes sense!
oh god yea! Pretty sure she’s rotting somewhere with a hint of back chat every so often! 🤣

I have a Lucy who’s 13! Didn’t even click the connection until you said, my nick name for her is lucifer tho! Not that I call her that in front of her mates!
love her name!

Keira would be my choice from your list.
How about Avery as it's similar to Emery/Everly but nicer IMO?

Fireworknight · 01/11/2024 18:50

Keira - lovely
Everly - if I heard it, I may think you did Beverley.
Sophie - ok, popular
Ruby -quite nice
Poppy - love it
Isabella "Bella" - quite nice
Lucy - lovely, no one will associate it with Lucy Letby
Holly - lovely

ThornyThing · 01/11/2024 18:50

I'm a Keira and yes, endless misspellings. Even from family members and close friends. Not massively bothered though.

suzettenoisette · 01/11/2024 17:06

Thank you. Just wondering, what are the negative associations with Everleigh?

There's a Reddit for names that are 'tragedeighs', where people poke fun at names with unnecessary extra letters in them (Ashleigh, Everleigh, Peighton, Breighden, Reighnbeaux) or names that don't have enough letters (Krayton for Creighton, Jaxon for Jackson) or names that are simply gobsmacking- Graisin / Gracyn for Grayson.

Behind the humour is the idea that names with this kind of spelling are a bit trashy.

mathanxiety · 01/11/2024 18:30

I know someone who has both a Lucy and a Holly, both under 3. Lovely names.

Of the two, I think I prefer Holly by a smidgeon.

Greentomatoes21 · 01/11/2024 18:22

I like all your names. I have a Lucy. Never occurred to me to make any negative associations given the news at present and I love it more than the day we picked it. X

bostonchamps · 01/11/2024 18:18

I'm a Holly, and I love my name! There aren't loads of us around, and when my DH was told about me by our mutual friend (all those years ago) he said he thought Hollys were cool and sophisticated.

He does now accept his mistake, but he also still likes my name.

Snowpatrolling · 01/11/2024 18:16

love her name!

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 01/11/2024 18:10

I really like Holly. It's also one of the few names where I don't mind it being changed to have the "ie" ending - I know more Hollies than Hollys and like both equally as much.

shoopshoopdedoo · 01/11/2024 18:08

Holly - OK, not a fave but not bad
Ruby - like
Lucy - like
Keira- not keen
Sophie - like
Poppy - OK, bit childish to me but is fine
Isabella - really don’t like, too frilly! Like Isabel
Everly - really don’t like, not to my taste
Emery - as above

RuthW · 01/11/2024 17:30

Keira - a bit 90s
Everly - love this
Sophie - too many about
Ruby - too many about
Poppy - quite like this
Isabella "Bella" - still very popular. Will be about three in a class if you include Isabelle/Isobel/Arabella etc
Lucy- nice. Not too popular
Holly - very 90s.

MerryChristmasToYou · 01/11/2024 17:20

Keira - I think of someone older.
Everly - don't like it at all
Sophie - like it
Ruby - cockerpoo or spaniel
Poppy - really pretty
Bella - golden retriever or beagle
Lucy - like it
Holly - like it

boysmuminherts · 01/11/2024 17:16

I have teenage boys
All these names have been girls in my boys classes. So common amongst that generation. All nice normal names. Which one do you love?
Except Everly we don't know any of them. Makes me think of the Everly Brothers.
And I didn't realise you meant Lucy when talking about murders, I thought of poor Holly. Although I never usually associate the Hollys we know with this awful event.

ginasevern · 01/11/2024 17:15

The only 2 I like are Isabella and Holly, but Isabella has been done to death. Holly is a lovely name that won't date and I haven't heard it screamed in supermarkets at all so it can't be very common.
