Names like Matilda / Zara / Madeleine?

PocketRocket12 · 31/10/2024 19:17

Help! Baby girl due in three weeks and still no baby names for her.

Zara, Matilda and Madeleine are at the top of my list but have all been vitoed by DH for different reasons.

He likes Orla and Erin but we’ve not settled on anything.

I suppose we like names that aren’t too fussy (although that’s a matter of opinion), not too “out there” and relatively easy to say / spell.

Our surname begins with a “T” and we already have a DS named Zachary.

What names might we like?

Your comments have been so helpful! Currently top on our very long list:

Hazel
Eliza
Maeve (Maeva?)
Lila

Still fighting for Zara but may lose that battle!

Middle name will be Jane. Appreciate it’s not often used so probably won’t matter.

Any votes on these will be fantastic. I promise to be back when she is born to confirm what we called her 🤣

Eliza… that’s really growing on me. Same with Hazel. Adding them to the list for sure. Maybe I have a thing for “Z”s that I didn’t realise.

ADORE Tallulah (gives me similar vibes to Matilda) but we have a Tallulah in the close family. Finding girls names so much harder than when we named our DS.

Eliza and Hazel are both lovely and go so well with Zachary. The z link is sweet and subtle, rather than something like Zara or Zoe which would be more in your face.

Unlike a previous poster, I wouldn't assume Eliza to be short for Elizabeth. The first 5 letters may be the same, but the pronunciation is totally different. Eliza is very much a name in it's own right to me.

I'm really not a fan of Madison. It's a totally different vibe to Madeleine and doesn't make sense as a girls name to me, with the 'son' ending. Your other choices are all preferable and go better with Zachary.
