Thoughts on Lumina?

Lumina is name of Latin origin. I heard it's first used in 1800s and it means 'lights'. I pronounce it LOO-me-na and potential nickname I would use, if needed, is Lumie, but I prefer Lumina.

What do you think?

Like others, less keen on Lumina, sorry - I think it’s sounds like a brand name.

Indeed, in Romanian ”lumina” means ”light”, but it's not used as a name. Luminița is the diminutive (”little light”).

I can see where you’re coming from but my first thought was the lumen of a tube - so sorry. Alba means first light/dawn.

The association I have is the candelabra from Beauty and the Beast.
Seren is pretty if you like star/light names.

I think it's cute, reminds me of the character from Harvest Moon. People on mumsnet call their kids Otillie or Raffie or Hendrick 😂so there's much worse, doesn't make me think of a brand

It's pretty and I also like Lumie or Lumi. Lumi means "snow" in Finnish, very beautiful :)

Sounds like a lightbulb brand. I need a Lumina GU10 for that bloody bathroom light.

Of course it means lights, anyone could guess that.

I really wouldn't.

Luminous, meaning glows in the dark and is very similar as they have the same root. Will your baby glow in the dark? 🤣

I remember as a child when luminous wrist watches were all the rage. I had a child's one for Christmas one year and I was delighted. I thought it was just the ticket! 😃

To be fair, my baby's name means 'war like' and mine means 'lotus'. She's not at all fearsome and I'm not a plant! 😅

OP, I actually like this one and feel the responses are a bit harsh to be honest!

It's unusual but doesn't strike me as particularly weird. I haven't heard of any of the brand names mentioned above before. I can see it fitting in well with Luna, Nova, Celeste etc.

It ought to be lovely as it does capture the zeitgeist of current names and it is a melodic word with a nice meaning, but it struck me immediately as the name of a beauty brand.

Also I would struggle to get past the LOO bit. Sorry!

@nameXname Miranda wasn't a name either until Shakepeare took it from the Latin 'mirandus'. As created names go, taking something from a Latin root is WAY better than just whacking a load of random letters together.
