Names - Islie, Emmeline, Safia, Neveah and Hendrick.

I used to work with a guy from Egypt, one of his daughters was called Saffia. With two "F"s. Its cute but I would think a its a Muslim name - but its the nicest one on your list.

I also like Hendrick though isn't it a brand of gyn?

Islie - why not Isla?
Emmeline - Naphthalene (moth balls). Why not Emma or Emily?
Neveah - only if you are Irish. otherwise why??

I like traditional names which can have several short forms - Alexander, Christopher, Nicholas etc. Or for girls, C/Katherine, Elizabeth, Margaret.

Emmaline is the only one that's remotely like a name to me.

Neveah was made popular from that tv show 16 and Pregnant. Hendrick= gin.

Not especially keen on any of them. Emmeline is an OK name but reminds me of the Hot Chocolate song (Emma, Emmaline) about the girl who kicked herself because she couldn’t be a star.

Hendrick is great, so much better than Hendrix.

If you want the "heavenly" name go with Celeste (as in celestial), but don't do Nevaeh....

@showersandflowers Artemis is predominantly a Greek girls name, after the goddess. The male version is pronounced more like Artemas.

With Neveah, did you mean Nevaeh, as in heaven backwards? If so it’s a name that started as a joke on the internet and so gets the piss taken out of frequently.

This isn't correct; "Nevaeh" (neh-VY-uh) was popularised by Sonny Sandoval, lead singer of the Christian rap band POD (Payable on Death) who used it for his daughter in 2000. At the time there was a popular TV program called "MTV Cribs" featuring celebrities talking about their babies and he was featured, so his explanation of the baby's name was widely publicised. (His other daughter is apparently Marley Keziah). There are Nevaehs documented prior to 2000, but that's when it really took off.

The US Social Security Administration publishes records of the top 1000 names recorded for babies of each sex each year; Nevaeh made that list for the first time in 2001 at #226 and then peaked at #25 in 2010; in 2023 it was #118. Neveah (neh-VEE-uh) was in the top 1000 from 2005 to 2014 but peaked at 882 in 2010. (Neveah may be a misspelling of Nevaeh in some cases but is more likely "inspired by" Nevaeh or a mixture of Nevaeh with names like Leah/Lia, Malia, Mia, Gia, etc. which were also popular at the time.)

I'm in the US and my 15yo has both a Nevaeh (Nev) and a Neveah (Veah/Vee) in his year at school. I wouldn't use either, personally, and suspect that both names are/will be associated with a specific time period - but "Nevaeh" in particular has had a surprisingly good run! Obviously there are big cultural differences, but I was surprised to see that Navaeh was ranked #105 for girls names in England and Wales in 2022 (and Neveah at #1501).

For a boy, I’d say Nathaniel fits the bill, options for a little one (Nat, Natty) but also for an older lad (Nate) as well as feeling like a ‘proper’ name in it’s full format just in case future child becomes Prime Minister or something.

I know someone with an Isla who they call Islie (eye-lee) - I really don't like it (Isla is a lovely name), for some reason Islie sounds really whiny when they call it out to her across the park or whatever.

@Waboofoo yeah that's why it sort of came after because we really like the count but yes, it's been affected by that. Saying that, we have a friend who makes documentaries who is very successful on a small scale in his community called Midas and it really works for him! It's an annoying one.

Islie - I's spell it Isley like the surname. It looks a bit like it would rhyme with Wisley, so I'd probably choose something else. Miley or Kylie?
Emmeline - I prefer Emma and Emily
Safia - Safiya is nice
Neveah - No

Hendrick - gin. Hendrix, Henry, Hendry or Henrik? Gordon? Tanqueray?

You can’t call your kid Midas! He will forever be tormented by stupid quips asking if he has the Midas touch. Don’t do it!

@LouCritt at the moment we just have Artemis, Aramis and I like Atlas but my husbands has hard noped that one. Oh and also Midas! But we have so many other lists to look through. My husband plays a lot of games so we're going to look through lists of character names and I'm going to look through names from books I like/liked growing up. There has to be something!!!
