Our friend Guillaume is universally known as Will! Presumably this is the sort of thing you are looking to avoid.

french ancestry but living in the UK and non French speaking. So needs to work in English more
Then I think you should choose a name you like that it's fairly obvious how to say and spell it.
Something like Andre, Etienne or Pierre fits that brief, but Matthieu, Laurent, Gaspard would be Math-ew, Lorrunt, Gas-pud/Gasp-ard etc

Names like Guillaume and Edouard would probably be old-fashioned in France and tricky in the UK.

The link I posted has many international names like Raphael, Leo, Theo, Louis, Adam, Hugo, Martin, Lucas but they're not identifiably French. (Susan is there too but I'm not sure why!)

You could look at your family tree to look if there are names you like, or look for names that are related to the part of France with which your family is linked. e.g. Browse Names - Behind the Name. Loïc and Malo seem current and are Breton.

How about Pom then?! 😂

More seriously I like Matthieu which works well in English and I know a little Gaspard and it’s super cute on him.

Is the baby French or part-French? Where will he grow up?

The names suggested on this thread might be dated in France. Similarly, names popular in France might be dated here.

Check that the name works in both English and French, and that it goes with the surname e.g. Michel Le Surnom will be read as Michelle Surnom here, Arthur might not like being called Arfa etc.

Haven’t heard that name since I met a gorgeous Loic on my school exchange. Love it! See also Etienne, swoon!

I love Benoit. But it wouldn't be long before he became a boring English Ben.

My brother was friends with a Thibault (tee-bo) - I like the way it's pronounced but the spelling might cause issues in the UK!
