Really struggling with a girl’s name - Mia, Ella or something else 💜

8weekscrossed · 19/10/2024 20:29

We have 2 boys, very traditional names (Oliver and Joshua). We are having a girl but really struggling with a name.

It has to go with the boys names that are quite traditional. I liked Alice but my DH doesn’t like it.

We both think Mia and Ella are nice, but I’m just not sure they are ‘nice’ enough!

There are so many lovely girl names out there but we are really struggling! Any help appreciated.

@Firsttimebabymummy , it's Eloise not Elouise.

@northernsouldownsouth , it can be Lootch-ee-a, Loos-ee-a, Lucy-a or Loosha. I work with a Spanish-speaking one and she's Lucy-a.

PrincessOfPreschool · 21/10/2024 08:05

Penelope would be Penny

PrincessOfPreschool · 21/10/2024 08:04

Paige is a very American name, nothing like your other two. I would say Alice is perfect, but failing that, maybe DH likes 'P' names:

Phoebe
Patricia (Patsy)
Pandora
Penelope
Poppy
Priscilla

Excitedannie · 21/10/2024 08:00

Claudia? Olivia?

Firsttimebabymummy · 21/10/2024 07:55

Elouise?

Firsttimebabymummy · 21/10/2024 07:55

Alicia?

Freya is my favourite from your shortlist

I think that's Italian - Loo-chee-a
A bit odd as Lucy-a

Oh one of the other mums had mentioned she thought it was Loo Chee a , (but Lucy-a was my first time hearing it at all so that one makes more sense to me lol)

shockeditellyou · 21/10/2024 07:32

There are 5 Mias and a few Mayas in my DDs year, it’s super common if that bothers you.

I met a little Lucia recently (Lucy-a) and thought it was so cute and pretty

How about Ellis - similar to Alice.

Or Elise is a pretty name

Elise is a really good suggestion - a bit like a melange of Alice and Ella

Mrsgreen100 · 20/10/2024 20:33

So many Mia’s and Ella’s around
I know 2 Mia and 3 Ella’s
haven’t meet an Alicia pretty name !

Emilia - Can be shortened to Milly, Mia,

girljulian · 20/10/2024 20:14

Mia and Ella are both incredibly common and also just…boring. Alice is a great name!

shoopshoopdedoo · 20/10/2024 20:12

Love your boys’ names. I also, I helpfully, love Alice, but it’s obviously not a goer if your husband doesn’t like it. I’m not keen on Alicia.

Ella and Mia are both nice but don’t seem as strong or classic to me as Oliver and Joshua. I think Eleanor nn Ella could work. I like Freya best of your choices.

Also like PP suggestions of Anna, Rose, Helena (Lena, Nell), Harriet.

MerryMarys · 20/10/2024 20:02

And Ellas!

MerryMarys · 20/10/2024 20:02

Mia and Ella are quite overused

This! We know sooo many Mias and Ellies....

orangetriangle · 20/10/2024 19:36

How about Elodie?

Mia and Ella are quite overused, but if you love them then go for it.

Classic names to go with your boys' names would be:

Rebecca
Julia/Juliet
Josephine (maybe too close to Joshua)
Penelope (love the two short forms of this too)

Notreat · 20/10/2024 18:40

Lucy
Ruth
Catherine
Elizabeth
Eleanor
Matilda
Martha
Anna
Helena
Susanna
Rose

Parker231 · 20/10/2024 18:38

I like Anna or Grace. Would have used one of them for DD but didn’t work well in our native languages.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2024 18:35

• Ella
• Mia
• Freya

Of the three, Ella. I don't really like any of them and they have been overused for a long time.

I like the boys' names.

Alice, Harriet and Flora are all great. Alicia is OK but I don't like the Aleesha pronunciation.
