Help me decide! Older sister is Clara. I love both names.

I like both but I think Clara and Emily sounds nicer and is easier to say

Emily all the way for me. Lucy just seems a bit bland - probably as there are so many of them!

There are way more Emily’s around than Lucys! Emily has been in top 20 for at least the last 30 years. Lucy left the top 20 in 2010 and is now similar popularity to Clara. For that reason I would go Lucy.

BatsInSpring · 15/10/2024 17:08

Both are lovely but with Clara I'd prefer Emilia or Lucille or Emmeline or Lucinda

UltramarineViolet · 15/10/2024 17:03

They are both nice names but I have voted Lucy as it is more timeless IMHO

Emily has probably been in the top 10 for 20+ years now so there a LOT of them around

While Lucy has been in reasonably common use for 50+ years I doubt it has spent much time in the top 10 so doesn't feel as overused

It is so offensive (ageist and sexist) to use the name Karen as an insult. And I don't know what race has to do with it. Can't you just say you don't like the name Emily?! FFS.

People here are saying way worse things about pretty much every name, but I actually like the name Karen, i just think that Emily is most likely going to be that generic name like Karen in the future

PumpkinSpicePie · 15/10/2024 16:53

I like both equally sorry. Dd17 is a Lucy and has never been teased about her name. Neither have the other ones in her year.
Do you know why your other thread was deleted?

BootballJoy · 15/10/2024 16:47

I really don't think Clara is less popular than Lucy - looking at dark greener Lucy was 90th and Clara 93rd in 2022, and Clara was on the way up and Lucy going down. I've met far more baby Claras than either of those two names- it's a very nice name.

Lucy and Emily both solid choices- I'd go for Emily as i prefer the sound and nicknames.

Emily is quite dull white girl name that is next generation's Karen. Lucy is nice but go with what you love!

Maverick66 · 15/10/2024 15:06

Emily for me.
My friend Lucy was teased mercilessly at school.
Everyone called her juicy Lucy

FayCarew · 15/10/2024 14:55

Oh come on, there are not literally millions of Emilys.

Charlotte120221 · 15/10/2024 14:25

they are both nice names - but we know literally millions of Emilys so would never choose that. And Lucy is quite popular too.

Clara is a way more unusual (and v lovely) name - are you definitely stuck on Emily and Lucy or still open to suggestions?

NameChange30 · 15/10/2024 12:27

Clara and Claudia?! Far too similar!

RuthW · 15/10/2024 12:14

Lucy is ok. Emily I'm not keen on.

Highandloww · 15/10/2024 12:10

Both are safe and boring options. It would be unfair to her if the older one is Clara. I would look for one with a similar vibe. Claudia, Seraphina, Nina?

Liv999 · 15/10/2024 11:54

I would go for Emma over the other two but if its just between them then Emily as I don't like Lucy

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 15/10/2024 11:37

Can’t really decide between the two. Find them both nice enough names but don’t love either.

I prefer Emma, Ember and Emmy over Emily.

NameChange30 · 15/10/2024 11:28

Both lovely names. I prefer Lucy.

PPs have suggested a few names ending in -a but I would avoid that since you have a Clara.

Other names that might work:
Alice
Florence
Grace
Imogen
Penelope (Penny)
Rose
Ruby

AmeliaEarache · 15/10/2024 10:58

I know too many Emilys, I think, so it feels a bit done-to-death. But that tends to vary by region.

(see also Ella and Olivia - perfectly nice names, know too many of them)

CalliopePlantain · 15/10/2024 10:54

I’m a Lucy. I’d have loved to be called Emily instead

FayCarew · 15/10/2024 10:53

Either is fine.
Lucia has many different ways of saying it, which could be an issue. I think i'd get fed up with saying 'Looch-ee-a' whenever I'd been called 'Lu-see-a'
Emilia is nice but Amelia is too popular, and the misspelling Emelia is awful.
Emma and Louisa are both nice.

Nicebloomers · 15/10/2024 09:50

Sunplanner · 15/10/2024 01:29

Pleasant enough but to me they're both a bit predictable compared to Clara. i'd try to have two less common names.

This is how I feel also.

Lucia (I prefer loo-chee-a)
Emilia
Emma
Louisa

FayCarew · 15/10/2024 07:36

Lucy but L names are currently very popular. Emma is much nicer than Emily.

BlackOrangeFrog · 15/10/2024 07:34

Emily

Jowak1 · 15/10/2024 07:32

Lucy! But I'm biased I have a Lucy and I love the name
