Help me decide! Older sister is Clara. I love both names.

I prefer Emily. One of my favourite names.

FayCarew · 17/10/2024 07:50

I don't like Lucinda.

abracadabra1980 · 16/10/2024 21:46

Emily

Never known a nice Lucy

I'm a nice one! And I know a few nice ones too!

My grandmother was called Lucy, as am I. I do think it's a name that suits any age. There were 3 of us in my class in primary. I don't mind being called Loose. I can't say I've ever been "picked on" because of my name. My nickname is "lock" within my family.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 16/10/2024 21:34

Definitely Lucy, it works better at different ages. I struggle to think of an old lady called Emily. Emma is a strong and timeless alternative.

Clara is a beautiful name and was on my list. As were Eliza, Emmeline, Jemima, Lois, Lydia, Georgia. Strong traditional names with good nickname opportunities.

@Greenerstreet I’m having a perfectly fine day, thank you. But you said I was “really reaching” ? What did you mean by that then, if it’s not a comment on me? I never mentioned any nicknames or teasing in my posts about Lucy - only that I didn’t like the sound of the first syllable in the name. You and the poster you were responding to rudely made assumptions for some reason and I tried to correct them, that’s all.

Sweetiedarling2024 · 16/10/2024 20:56

Emily. What about Emmeline?

Penguinsmum · 16/10/2024 20:53

Definitely Lucy

SydneyReynolds · 16/10/2024 20:51

I agree with previous posters, I think they are both a bit boring compared to Clara. How about Lucia?

Greenerstreet · 16/10/2024 20:51

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/10/2024 20:41

My comment that I don’t like the word/sound “loose”? Some people don’t like the sound “Willy” in William or “Claw” in Claudia, for example. I’ve been on this board a long time and if you look at past posts about Lucy - others have said exactly the same, not sure why you are after me for saying it 🤷‍♀️

Edited

Yes exactly, that comment. I’m not ‘after you’, remember I was actually responding to another poster, as I don't think this whole ‘loose’ thing is an issue, which is my opinion.

Seriously I don’t know if you’re having a bad day or something, but you are reading way way too much into this. This isn’t a big thing.

Yeah and didn’t agree with your comment, it’s not that big a deal!

Idontlikeyou · 16/10/2024 20:33

I’ve disliked every Lucy I’ve ever met, so because of that extremely personal bias I am team Emily (which is also my cats name).

In all seriousness though they are both lovely.

I’m not “desperate for an argument” - neither Lucy or Emily are particular favourites! I made a simple comment about Lucy - which neither you nor the poster with the daughter called Lucy apparently read properly (since I never mentioned teasing 🙄- Lucy is a common name so it’s unlikely to be teased!) .

But can you not understand why it might be frustrating when someone implies that you said something- when it’s there in black and white that you didn’t. And rather than apologise they double down and are rude? 🤷‍♀️

Omg seriously, why are you so desperate for an argument? Relax! Life’s too short!

I know a lucy which is short for lucinda, I've never met another one

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/10/2024 20:03

“Think that poster was really reaching here”

And I’m the rude one? Please re-read my post - where did I ever say that a Lucy would be teased? I simply gave my own opinion on why I wasn’t keen on the name Lucy 🙄

Wow…relax! I was just saying my opinion 🤷‍♀️

mathanxiety · 16/10/2024 20:03

Lucy is a bit wet.

Emily is OK.

I'd be more likely to go with Emma, Edith, Alice, Vita, Elspeth - something a little less predictable but still in keeping with Clara.

Greenerstreet · 16/10/2024 19:38

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/10/2024 18:50

I wasn’t saying that they’d be teased FGS , you are putting words into my mouth 🙄 But the OP was asking whether we preferred Emily or Lucy and I explained the reason I preferred Emily - I don’t like Lucy because the first syllable sounds like “loose”.Are we not allowed opinions now? I think you are being very over sensitive - I’m from a huge family and have relatives called both Emily and Lucy 🤷‍♀️

I'd go with Lucy

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/10/2024 18:50

Greenerstreet · 16/10/2024 11:12

Yeah my best friend growing up was Lucy, none of these nasty nicknames ever occurred to anyone. If you try you can think of ridiculous nicknames for literally any name! Think that poster is really reaching here.

ginasevern · 16/10/2024 14:13

Emily is beautiful. It is also somewhat classier than Lucy imo.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/10/2024 11:44

They see both equally nice, classic names .

Greenerstreet · 16/10/2024 11:12

PumpkinSpicePie · 16/10/2024 11:06

Ok. Dd is 17 and a Lucy and has never been teased for those reasons. I don't think any of the Lucys in her year have. There's a teacher at their school who has a Lucy. She was a mum at the same primary school. I doubt she'd have picked it if kids get bullied for it because of diarrhoea or harlot women.
