Hello everyone, I found out on Monday I am pregnant. I am really happy + have already started to look at/discuss baby names. I would appreciate other peoples opinions on the ones I do like, I prefer unique names rather than over used ones.
Girls: Sistine Fleurette Long, Starlette Maybel Long.
Other girls names I like: Dita, Saskia & Ettie.
Boys names: Channing, Kaylum, Jovi, Elino, Guy, Bruno + Barney.

I am open to other suggestions & what names look good together with the surname Long.

Thanks.

Sistine - Awful
Fleurette - too close to florette
Starlette - awful
Maybel - Mabel isn't too bad but Maybel is awful
Dita - Not a huge fan
Saskia - Really nice
Ettie - A full name would be better
Izelle looks like a mix between Isabelle and Gazelle. Not in a good way
Channing - Channing Tatum is what I think.
Kaylum - Dreadful
Jovi - Joby is ok
Elino - too close to Elinor and lino
Guy - Love it
Bruno and Barney - Both OK, but Barney Long looks like Long Barn

The surname being an adjective means you need to watch that the name doesn't sound silly - e.g. Long Guy.

I really like Saskia and Guy, but agree with pp that unfortunately Guy doesn’t work with Long. How about Guido or Gus?

Some other girl suggestions:
Danica
Sapphire
Minerva

Hello.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I really like the name Minerva, so I have added that to my list.
My new list is the following: Anetta Izelle Long, Minerva, Rosina, Saskia, Odette, Elinor & Ettie.

Boys: Jovi, Bruno, Edmund, Amos, Jovan, Johan and Eli for the middle name as chosen by my partner.

Just thought of some others that are not unique, but less common:
Verda
Teal
Vienna
Odette
Coralie
Izelle
Fairuza

Dalton
Blaze/Blaise
Torin
Felix
Oberon
River
Aster

Hello, thank you for coming up with some lovely names for me. I’ve added Odette to my list, that one is my favourite.

Hm. Fleurette, Saskia, Guy, Bruno and Barney are names, the rest just look like random words. I like Fleurette and Saskia, don't like any of the other names at all, sorry.

If you like Dita, maybe Perdita and shorten it for daily use? A couple of other suggestions for girls: Ondine, Oriana, Petronella, Rosina, all quite unusual but not made up. For boys: Edmund, Amos, Miles, Crispin.

Err I'm not sure on your names tbh, I like Ettie as nn.. maybe Lynette? There lots of others that would work too.

Don't forget your hormones are crazy at the moment. I liked Tallulah when I was pregnant but so glad I didnt call my little girl it now.

How about Jacob, Caleb, Seth for boys?

Thanks for your response.

I like Lynette, that’s a lovely name so thank you for that one. I don’t like Jacob, I feel like it’s very common and I know atleast one Jacob I dislike. Caleb & Seth are ok. X

Your revised list is much nicer.

I really like Ettie and Jovan. Callum is nice as well and similar to Kaylum (but it's a proper name!).

I'm not keen on Mariette as it's too similar to marionette (creepy puppets!).

Appreciate your honesty, I agree the new list is a lot better. Was so focused on unique names, I didn’t even think into how they sounded together with the surname. Grateful for everyone’s input.

I have to disagree, I think Tallulah is a human name not a dogs name. It isn’t silly at all, it’s a unique name and I am simply asking for mature responses. To resort to put downs, is very secondary school behaviour/attitude. I will not be taking any advice from someone like that.

Looking for honest but also mature responses if possible please. No silliness.

Calling a human being Starlette Maybel Long is far sillier than any response here. I'm glad you've come to your senses.

Of your revised list, Talullah is a Chihuahua name. Rufus is a dog name.

Errr, ok, where do I start.. Saskia and Dita are useable. I am going to assume the Sistine, Fleurette, Starlette combos are a joke. Re the boys names, are Kaylum and Elino even names? Bruno and Barney would be great together if you give birth to twin spaniels.. Seriously op, your kid has to deal with their name for life (or certainly through childhood, which will be extremely rough if you saddle them with these names..)

Thanks for your honesty, I have removed a lot of the names and decided to keep: Saskia, Ettie and Jovi. Added extra ones, as a lovely lady has come up with some great names further up in the comments that I really like these being: Tallulah, Elinor, Mariette, Jovan & Rufus.

I liked the name Sistine, it’s Sylvester Stallones daughters name. The comments above have put me off, I would like my daughter/son to have a positive experience at school and don’t want her/him to be singled out over her/his name.

Can you clarify if you're having a baby or a Chihuahua?

Thanks all, I appreciate your honesty. I have had a huge re-think, glad I asked for your opinions this has really helped me.
AuntieStella - thanks for giving me some more options, I have added Mariette, Tallulah, Jovan, Elinor and Rufus to my list. I have decided to keep the names: Saskia, Ettie, Jovi, Bruno to my list and I have removed the rest.

JC03745 - now you have said it, I see exactly what you mean. They really do sound like drag queen names!! I got the name Sistine from Sylvester Stallone, his daughter is named Sistine but Starlette, Guy and Dita sound terrible against the surname Long. I am glad you pointed it out!

As for the comments “are they for a baby or a dog?” I would appreciate you be more specific, not all of those names listed are suited to dogs. I am looking for advice, not silly comments like that. Thanks to the rest who have upheld some maturity alongside their honesty, much appreciated.
