Can't find a boy's name that I love

Dobbycraft · 04/10/2024 21:45

Please help me shorten my list! They are in no particular order and I'm not in love with any of them (I found naming a girl much easier).

Our daughter has a very uncommon name but it also doesn't sound unusual/out there. I would like something similar for a boy but I can't find anything.

Please pick your favourite and least favourite. Also open to suggestions!

Billy
Louis
Jacob
Joshua
Lucas
Seth
Jude
George
Reuben
Jonah
Rory
Leo
Toby

If you like unusual but not obscure names I think your list is going in the wrong direction they are all names you will hear on a normal day out in town. Of the names on your list Seth is the most unusual at 197th rank many of them are in the top 50
Not to say they are not lovely names but may be why you feel unsure?

I would suggest something like
Conrad
Hendrick
Augustus
Porter
Colin
Seamus
Kenneth
Gilbert
Leopold
Bertram
Ambrose..
all known boys names all of them around 1000 in popularity list.

Bertram??

EducatingArti · 05/10/2024 15:23

I like Stephen Silas, Marcus, Edgar and David.
All good names but not so common these days.

TheCultureHusks · 05/10/2024 15:18

Trying to get that feel you describe along the same lines as your list…

Yann
Jonas
Jago
Sarn

but really like Leo and Rory

Greenersands · 05/10/2024 15:18

Billy - like
Louis - love
Jacob - like
Joshua - it’s ok, know lots of Joshua’s which has put me off (5 just in my street!)
Lucas - it’s ok, know lots
Seth - I want to like this but it’s not a nice sound
Jude - I love but very on trend suddenly
George - like, classic
Reuben - like, on trend?
Jonah - like this, don’t know any
Rory - it’s ok
Leo - love but quite popular
Toby - it’s ok

I think it’s a good list though, you can’t go wrong with any of these names!

Lovely names. Also Ben?

Gherkin32 · 05/10/2024 14:45

Great list! Love Joshua/Josh so much, a solid classic, wish I thought of it when I had my son. I work at a school and haven’t had any Joshua/Josh’s in a good few years. Loads of Rory, Rueben, Toby, Seth, Jude and a few Jonah’s coming through now so I think that is getting trendy too!

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/10/2024 13:53

Leo - I really like it but it's very popular
Billy - if short for William
Toby - solid English-sounding name
George - solid English-sounding name
Jacob - will be shortened
Joshua - will be shortened

Louis - a bit too current and a bit wet
Lucas - a bit too current and a bit wet
Seth - too hissy
Jude - too whiny
Reuben - too wet
Jonah - too wet
Rory - too many Rs

TwigTheWonderKid · 05/10/2024 10:22

Not loving anything on your list apart from Seth.

Magnus
Ellis
Linus
Ned
Edgar
Edwin
Morgan
Byron

shoopshoopdedoo · 05/10/2024 09:48

I love Leo, George and Rory.

Least keen on Louis and Jacob (I’ve never liked how they sound) and Jude.

I do like Reuben but it seems to be one of the baby boy names of the moment where I am. I don’t know any adult Reuben’s but at least 7 under the age of 4.

Rain11 · 05/10/2024 09:10

Leo is my favourite.

My least favourite: Reuben

Wrenford · 05/10/2024 09:02

I think it's a lovely list! Paticularly like Reuben and Seth.

I have a Hudson, which I think used to be more unusual but may be becoming more popular now!

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/10/2024 08:56

I like Reuben, George, Joshua and Jacob.

Not keen on Jude or Seth

thankyouforthedayz · 05/10/2024 08:51

Reuben or Louis

SatinHeart · 05/10/2024 08:30

How about Ethan?

Beautifulsunflowers · 05/10/2024 06:28

How about Joel? Seems to fit the shorter names you lije

wizzler · 05/10/2024 06:20

I like Seth from your list

Names I don't hear much of at the moment are Nicholas, Philip, Mark, Leonard

More unusual names might be Zephan or Kingston

sel2223 · 05/10/2024 05:07

Leo is my favourite boys name but, if you're looking for something more unusual then that's not it.
I do like Jude as well

Yellowcakestand · 05/10/2024 01:24

I only like Billy from the list.

I have a DS with a name that isn't that common. It's a surname usually. He is 10 now and we have only met one other.
