Title says it all really. Duckie is out.
Second favourite is Spike.
I also really like Dot and Dusty.

Nope.

kolalumps · 04/10/2024 22:47

Name is a gift you give the person from birth, and it shapes their identity.

If you want to give your child a weird name, go right ahead. Spike, Shank, Shiv, Hammer …

Coruscations · 04/10/2024 22:46

Get yourself three dogs, use the names on them. Don't mess up your child.

I knew a child called Spike about 17yrs ago, he was a handful, but I actually quite like the name, MN is a bit judgemental over names.
I like Misty more than Dusty.

Edited

Misty reminds me of the girls comic in the 1970s!

SunsetSkylane · 04/10/2024 22:37

We actually called my son Dusty as a joke when he was born because he didn't have a cute baby smell, he smelled like musty old library books 😂

Dusty bin - 321

I've got a dog called Dusty, she was named after Dusty Bin by the shelter she came from as she was found abandoned in a bin when she was a very young pup.

Needanewname42 · 04/10/2024 22:33

Daphnie , Donald or Daisy would be a good nickname for Duckie.

WhappleBee · 04/10/2024 22:30

We had lots of fish named after them (Buffy, Dawn, Spike, Angel) but I don’t have pics anymore. I also have Clem (after the wrinkly demon) 😂

Ok. So Duckie is a no. What about Spike?
Notmynamerightnow · 04/10/2024 22:29

There's also Spike Lee.
Spike Milliagan's name was actually Terence.

suburburban · 04/10/2024 22:29

FloydGerhardt · 04/10/2024 22:24

I think Spike is a nickname for Patrick.

Interesting

A bit like Peggy is an diminutive of Margaret

WhappleBee · 04/10/2024 22:28

I can’t resist the urge to post pictures of our pets that have Buffy the Vampire Slayer names 😂 below is a picture of Buffy the Dog 😂

Name changed for this OP as would be outing. I have a little girl called Dusty and she bloody rocks her name. Thankfully the real world isn't like mumsnet. Absolutely nobody cares about her name, and if they're commenting behind my back, I couldn't give a shit. She's beautiful, smart and strong and she's the most wonderful Dusty girl the world has ever seen!!!

That just sounds like saying 'she's the most wonderful dirty girl'

Judellie · 04/10/2024 22:27

The only dog we ever had was called Spike. My dad insisted he be named after the dog in Tom and Jerry, saying it was his favourite programme.............tho wasn't there a dog called Butch in that too?

SunsetSkylane · 04/10/2024 22:27

I feel like you're trying to name a lizard. Maybe a gecko.

Tell you what, go up to strangers for a week introducing yourself as Duckie/Spike/Dusty and see what polite reactions people have to fake.

I mean - you've likely met loads of people, 99% of them who didn't have stupid as shit names. Why do this to an actual human, who will have to live in the world long after you've popped off?

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 04/10/2024 22:25

I immediately thought of Pretty in pink.
I used to know a Michael called Spike for a nickname.

FloydGerhardt · 04/10/2024 22:24

I think Spike is a nickname for Patrick.

Sharontheodopolodous · 04/10/2024 22:23

Duckie was tudor slang for breasts-henry wrote to Anne saying he loved her duckies
Spike is just awful, but a tad better than duckie

ButterAsADip · 04/10/2024 22:22

FWIW I know kids called Spike (nickname but used exclusively), Dusty and Pebbles 😁 not for me but they seem ok!

Frith2013 · 04/10/2024 22:22

No.

Enko · 04/10/2024 22:21

I like Dusty a lot

BnmLK · 04/10/2024 22:21
