Title says it all really. Duckie is out.
Second favourite is Spike.
I also really like Dot and Dusty.

Gaelic for Pig is Muc
That's a cool name.

Oh what theme are we on now?
Pigs? Birds?
Pebbles? As in Flintstone?
How about Flint ( or Stone)?

thesoundofwildgeese · 05/10/2024 13:13

Give your child a sensible name, then move to the Midlands. She'll get called "Duckie" and "Me duck" anyway.

clarrylove · 05/10/2024 13:10

Grundfuttock or Woogahumphtamuff?

Pickledpicklez · 05/10/2024 13:07

Looks I love the land before time as much as the next millennial, but turn the vhs off and walk away…

Soshiny · 05/10/2024 12:57

Possibly biased there as I know a man Dustin, with a Dustyn, also Dusty daughter and she totally rocks it

hang on @Snugglemonkey you knew a man called Dustin who had a son called Dustyn and a daughter called Dusty? What the what?

FWIW I know kids called Spike (nickname but used exclusively), Dusty and Pebbles 😁 not for me but they seem ok”

Bam Bam?

I think I've decided not to ask Mumsnet about names.

Well - if you want u questioning approbation for your name suggestions, regardless of how daft they are then yes, you should not ask on here, @magicstar2020. If, on the other hand, you want honesty, and to know what most people will actually think of your choices, you should carry on asking here.

Whether you choose to ask here or not, please, I beg of you, remember that you are naming a human being, not a pet.

BobbyBiscuits · 05/10/2024 11:06

I love Spike! But it was my cat's name. Dot is cute as well.

LoveSandbanks · 05/10/2024 11:05

Please, I beg of you, when naming your child, please imagine the name at the top of their CV.

Ask yourself who’s going to give a job to “Duckie Jones” or “Spike Smith”

suburburban · 05/10/2024 10:46

Yes give these names as a nickname

People will judge and when they go to a job interview etc or on a CV

Going on the animal theme, if you want to go with all things aquatic, then you could go with 'Finn'

or somthing with 4 legs
'Fia' - meaning Deer
pronounced Fee - ah

The Irish for Duck is 'Lacha'
Pronounced LOCK-KA (Munster)

Lacha Bheag - meaning little duck
LOCK -KA VEE-YUG

If that's any help?

Lacha has been known to be used as a first name without the 'Huey, Dewey and Louie', (please do not get any more name ideas from the trio), connotations attached to 'Duckie'

Scentedjasmin · 05/10/2024 09:01

I think that Dusty is a great name! You could make it little yellow outfits with red seams.
Spot could also be a good alternative to Dot.
Have you considered any of the following?
Pimple
Daffie (Duckie)
Pigeon
Cellotape
Thingymabob
Stapler

NapTrappedAgain · 05/10/2024 08:38

Random words for names only work for me if the image it conjures up is a nice one. It’s alright for things like Rose, Wren, River, Ruby, Fox, Ocean, Blossom etc because even though there’s an existing meaning it makes me think of nature or beauty or at least something pretty inoffensive.

Your choices are quite negative though. Spike makes me think of a bit of sharp metal and impaling. Dusty is quite literally dust-y. The existing meanings just aren’t that nice.

NewGreenDuck · 05/10/2024 08:29

Have you also considered Patch, Spot, or Scooby?

FjordPrefect · 05/10/2024 08:27

I know of someone who called their son Spike after Spike Milligan. His real name was Terrance Milligan, Spike was a nickname.

TheCultureHusks · 05/10/2024 08:05

Duckie is fine as a nickname. Just have Daniel or something and duckie for short

SnowyPetals · 05/10/2024 08:02

Why not have a chat with Elon Musk? He's great at coming up with baby names.

I think I've decided not to ask Mumsnet about names.

At least it's giving you an idea of what people in real life will think of your unusual name choices OP.

ButterAsADip · 05/10/2024 07:56

Oh also I would assume Spike is for a boy personally and would imagine Dot and Dusty are for a girl? So im confused by the OP now.

MadMaxHasSandInHisCrack · 05/10/2024 07:52

FrazzledHippy · 04/10/2024 21:52

What about Peetree or Little Foot? Sharp Tooth? Sara is a little plain but fits in with the theme 🤷‍♀️😂

It was actually "Cera" as in triceratops, so cute

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 05/10/2024 07:49

Dusty noooooo it's an insult

whiteroseredrose · 05/10/2024 07:48

Rex?

It is nephew's name but also has pet connotations? Would that work?
