I really love it.
Is it the pregnancy hormones? Or is it as great as I think it is?

Quack quack!

Quack quack!

Hey Duckie, can you speak to ducks?

Quack quack!

It's a bit like calling someone Puppy or Doggie.

Would you do that?

TwisterSister208 · 04/10/2024 20:38

As the child's given name?? You cannot be serious. LOL

StripeyDeckchair · 04/10/2024 20:37

NO

It's terrible
It's also a terrible nickname

Give the poor child a name that will result in them being mercilessly bullied for their entire childhood and overlooked for any job in adulthood.

JoJothegerbil · 04/10/2024 20:34

My granny used to call everyone Duckie, a bit like people call loved ones Darling. However it's not a name. Don't do it OP.

Find a breed of duck that sounds like a name. Call child that, then use Duckie as a nickname.
(Or NCIS style change your surname to Mallard)

I was going to say, 'only if your child is an NCIS doctor '
😆

Don't be bloody ridiculous.

This

Itsnotallalark · 04/10/2024 20:30

This is a joke, isn’t it?

Differentstarts · 04/10/2024 20:30

Why do you hate your baby

Mmhmmn · 04/10/2024 20:30

Imagine yourself going about your business in the course of a typical week or at various life stages of life, and and if you might grow bored of people misunderstanding or taking the piss out of your name day in, day out. How might you feel going through life with the name?

magicstar2020 · 04/10/2024 20:29

@viques
You've single-handedly just convinced me I could never do it. You should see the size of my husbands nose.

I think that Duckie is a lovely nickname for Donald, but i also think he’d disown you for using outside the house after the age of about 6.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/10/2024 20:25

This thread has gone me thinking about cute baby duckings goslings and cygnets. I’m sniding off with YouTube 🤣🤣

Sia8899 · 04/10/2024 20:25

This reminds me of when I wanted to call my cat Baby and my sister talked me out of it. I was 23 😂. Always good to get opinions before you settle on a cute/silly/unusual name!

Oh god Dora duck!!!! Not dick

I’m not sure Dora Dick is any worse than Duckie tbh

I live in Derbyshire where duckie is used all the time, as well as flower, iIs an endearing term we use 🤗

Yes and that's fine, but to actually put Duckie on the birth certificate? Err no!

viques · 04/10/2024 20:24

NoraLuka · 04/10/2024 18:55

There was a character called Ducky in NCIS. He was fictional though, and it was a nickname.

And duckface in four weddings and a funeral. Imagine if a child had a prominent nose and chin like Tarantino, Duckie would be very cruel.

TerrifiedandWorried · 04/10/2024 20:24

I was so convinced I had thought of a really good baby name. Couldn't work out why everyone kept looking at me strangely when I suggested it. It was actually my mother in laws name and I hadn't noticed.

Batman37 · 04/10/2024 20:23

If you have a boy he can be Douglas so Dougie for short - sounds the same

AbbeyGrange · 04/10/2024 20:22

Come on OP, you must know it's a daft idea, it must be the hormones, imagine if you named the poor child "Duckie", I promise you you'll look back in 5 years and think "what the actual fuck made me think this was ok?"

FuckThePoPo · 04/10/2024 20:22

ah Duckie Dale and Andie. What a great film!

LittleBobbyDazzler · 04/10/2024 20:22

I just think of the legend that is Dr. Donald Mallard.

No, use it as a nickname. I call my kiddo pickle but I, rightful, would have been laughed at and lambasted if I had have tried to call her that legally.

You obviously don't live anywhere near Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire. They call everybody duck and duckie there.

No. Just no.
