I really love it.
Is it the pregnancy hormones? Or is it as great as I think it is?

I'd ask myself is it: cute at 2? Cool at 12? Cringe free 20+?

If they grow up to be a lawyer? Dr? Teacher? Will they be able to share their first name?

Also Duckie is the dinosaur from land before time, and the actress playing her.. well look it up it was horrible..

I don't think I'd do it. I'd maybe use it as a nickname when they're little but your baby your choice

Skybluepinky · 05/10/2024 21:53

Of course not unless u want people to call them the ugly duckling.

NewBrightonEel · 05/10/2024 21:25

I remember at primary school (I'm 57) and the kids used to say this joke:

"Hey - you've got upduckie on your shoulder"
"What's upduckie?"
"Nothing sweetie" (in a camp voice)

I still cringe 50 years later. Trust me - your kid will blame you for getting bullied - and they won't be wrong!

NoDought · 05/10/2024 21:23

As a pet name or a real name?

suzysnowball · 05/10/2024 20:14

Give your child a name it won't be embarrassed by and change your own name to Duckegg or whatever it if you like it that much.

MarvellousMonsters · 05/10/2024 20:10

As a pet-name, yes. As an official name on the birth certificate, absolutely not.

TorroFerney · 05/10/2024 20:09

Thanks op, I’ve now got “pretty in pink” by the psychedelic furs going round in my head.

Avoidingsleep · 05/10/2024 20:08

As a nickname yes. Especially if their name happens to be Donald Mallard.

Personally I wouldn’t use it as a proper name, I feel like it would set a child up to be bullied. Also, imagine working with or hiring someone called Duckie…

Tessiebear2023 · 05/10/2024 19:48

Yes, yes you can. But then, my children call me Mufsies (two of them are grown men).

@Wheelz46 I was thinking that too, and I love the film so much, but I was always Team Blaine, even though he was a wet blanket

What??? Team Blane?? Why?

He didn't believe in Andie: he let his awful friends speak to her like dirt, then ghosted her and lied about it. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. And she forgave him because he went to prom alone. Pfft.

Bernardo1 · 05/10/2024 19:46

No, you're an idiot, or a N.C.I.S. groupie.

SnozPoz · 05/10/2024 19:44

Nope

PracticalLady · 05/10/2024 19:44

Dulcie, Dorrie, but not Duckie , no!

MarxistMags · 05/10/2024 19:38

Why would you want to do that ?

Snakebite61 · 05/10/2024 19:28

Mooburger · 04/10/2024 18:41

Good god no.

Sorry but that's just stupid.

Mumof3PrettyBoys · 05/10/2024 19:27

Is this a joke OP?? Duckie is what you call a yellow duck bath toy while baby has a bath.. how dreadful for an actual childs name 🤯👀🙄

wizzbitt · 05/10/2024 19:17

No

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/10/2024 19:09

My mum used to call me that when she was angry with me.

Please don't OP.

MinnietheMini · 05/10/2024 19:07

As in, "Ey up me duck"?
With a strong Nottingham city accent?
Mmm, no 👎

Tygertiger · 05/10/2024 18:56

You’re naming a human, not a dog. Would you like to be called Duckie or Spike? Picking silly names is so self-indulgent - it’s your child who has to walk in on their first day of secondary school and introduce themselves as Spike, not you. Either change your own name by deed poll or get a puppy and call it Spike, but give your child an actual human name.

Mumoftwochildrenand6furkids · 05/10/2024 18:44

NO NO NO The poor kid would get bullied like anything, I can imagine kids going quack quack everytime he gets his name called in school.

laraitopbanana · 05/10/2024 18:43

No.

MagicFarawayTea · 05/10/2024 18:35

No. No you can’t. For many reasons including Fuckie Duckie. Suckie Duckie. See where I’m going with this?

2boyzNosleep · 05/10/2024 18:30

Honestly, duckie just makes me think of a rubber duck. It's not a nice cute name OR nickname.

Spike is what you'd name a pet.

Obviously, your child, your choice, but is there a reason you're considering these names? Are you trying to find a unique name that no one else has? Just because it's cute doesn't make it appropriate.

Just remember that your child grows into an adult, I doubt they would appreciate having a cutesy baby (or pet) name

bellocchild · 05/10/2024 18:23

We should make this sort of name illegal!
