I really love it.
Is it the pregnancy hormones? Or is it as great as I think it is?

The name brings back memories of the film 'Pretty in Pink'. Jon Cryers character was called Duckie, he was a great character but the name is a definite no no though 😬

drspouse · 04/10/2024 19:42

Judge Duckie Jones?
Professor Duckie Brown?
Hello, pleased to meet you, I'm the manager, Duckie Williams?
No. Just no.

Atishooo · 04/10/2024 19:42

That cute phase where you can dress your baby/toddler as a duck only lasts so long. Then the tantrums start. Then they won’t want to be a duck. Or be called one.

If you lived where I live they would get called Duckie anyway, at least by the dinner ladies at school.

Twototwo15 · 04/10/2024 19:39

Only in private.

Atishooo · 04/10/2024 19:36

Only if you hate your child.

You do know that ‘duck’ is what people call each other in the East Midlands? As in ‘hey up me duck’ and ‘you alright ducky’. But it’s not a name. Just imagine how much your teenager is going to hate you.

MumChp · 04/10/2024 19:35

It's awful.

Cocothecoconut · 04/10/2024 19:35

Don’t be that parent
setting your child up for years of ridicule

RogersOrganismicProcess · 04/10/2024 19:32

I’ve tried really hard to find passable names that are also breeds of duck:
Elizabeth
Kaiya

You could then have ‘Duckie’ with a get out if needed.

Of course you can.

It would be different if you were an actual duck. That would be confusing. Too many other ducks!

But, you're a person, so it's fine.

Round here everyone gets called duckie so they’d still have that problem

Thejackrussellsrule · 04/10/2024 19:30

What the Duck?
I think I've just dislocated my eyelids from eye rolling.

Mynaddmawr · 04/10/2024 19:28

Sorry OP but this made me laugh. You can definitely call your baby ducky but please give them an actual name as well 🤣 I call my baby ducky sometimes but she does have a human name

CallYourselfAChef · 04/10/2024 19:27

Are you feeling alright?! 😂

Introduce yourself as Duckie to the next new person you meet. See their reaction. Think about how it would be to get that every time you meet someone for your whole life (well until you are old enough to insist on a different name).

derxa · 04/10/2024 19:24

A character in NCIS. Played by David McCallum

Catlover1705 · 04/10/2024 19:24

Slang for breasts so not a good idea.

Haggia · 04/10/2024 19:23

Yes, absolutely please do.

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 04/10/2024 19:22

You probably can, but why would you want to?

Sethera · 04/10/2024 19:10

Inspired by The Flintstones, maybe?

My first thought too but her mum pointed out her name was Pebble and not Pebbles.

Its a beautiful, beautiful nickname
And fine for a baby, but doesn't work well for a grown up..
It wouldn't work well at a board meeting,

What about Dora it's a lovely name and Dora dick or Duckie would be fine for a nickname
