@Frith2013 Aidan. Do you have a different style of names ?

Frith2013 · 04/10/2024 22:25

Aiden, but I'm not keen on any of those.

Mugcake · 04/10/2024 14:23

I really like Aiden

I used to think it was too similar to the Jayden / Caden craze but that seems to have died down now and Aiden is actually lovely. I think there was a St Aiden

Babyboyno2 · 04/10/2024 13:50

@TheBelleOfBelfastCity unfortunately Oisin is used in family. Conor lovely but very common

Thank you, I prefer Callan over Caolán. Would like an Irish name though

How about Conor or Oisín?

TheBelleOfBelfastCity · 04/10/2024 13:44

Darragh!

I love all of them.

I really like the diminutive Cal, so I'd pick Callan or Caolán. The only Caolán I know goes by Cal.

Normallynumb · 04/10/2024 12:54

Ruairi and Aidan
All are lovely

MiddleAgedDread · 04/10/2024 12:48

Ruairi

Babyboyno2 · 04/10/2024 09:56

@KirstenBlest seen that I agree I much prefer Ronan but think he will get Roman unfortunately

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 04/10/2024 09:51

In the replies, @Babyboyno2 , both Ronan and Ruairi have been misspelt.
Ronan is a million times nicer than Roman.
(I don't see the appeal of Roman at all)

Viviennemary · 04/10/2024 09:37

They all sound fine. Some look a little hard to pronounce for those not familiar with those names.

PadstowGirl · 04/10/2024 09:33

All lovely.
Callan is my fav though.

AdaColeman · 04/10/2024 09:33

Ruairi and Darragh are my favourites.

Babyboyno2 · 04/10/2024 09:07

@Radiolala Aodhán- is supposed to be ay-awn however any I know do pronounce the d so it’s “ay-dawn” same as Aidan is said
again with caolán any I know it’s pronounced “ke-lawn”

Please can I ask how you pronounce Aodhán and Caolán? They look beautiful written down but I know that I would never guess correctly.

I have a friend with a Darragh which is lovely.

Aid-awn

Kee-lawn

I love Aidan and Darragh!! The Ruairi / Rory confusion that I see regularly turns me off using them. I prefer Caolan to Caolán. Good name choices though OP, they are all fab!

EdgeOfSixty · 04/10/2024 00:28

Roman and Darragh

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/10/2024 23:06

Aidan if you want to be classic/traditional (in N.Ireland or Ireland).

Callan if you want him to stand out a bit more.

Usually I would always choose the classic as it’s likely to be more timeless- but Cal is just such a cool diminutive that it sways me! Reminds me of James Dean in East of Eden.

Less keen on your other picks - and I understand wanting to use the Gaelic, but if the anglicised versions are as widely used where you are then I’d pick them just for ease if he travels when older (if the Gaelic are more common, then stick with them).

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/10/2024 21:58

Caolan
