Alexander ,because its my oldest sons name ,my nephew is Joseph ,both great names.

sadeightiesthrowback · 04/10/2024 14:52

Casting my vote for Alexander.

35andThriving · 04/10/2024 11:46

Joseph - I'm just putting Joel out there as a suggestion too.

Waterboatlass · 04/10/2024 10:47

Alexander!!

Daisybuttercup12345 · 04/10/2024 10:46

Alexander Joseph. Lovely.

sadeightiesthrowback · 04/10/2024 01:43

Another biased; I have an Alexander, love the shortened version Alex but grimaced when he was young and a neighbour started calling my son Al, a name I never liked.
I think Joseph is a very nice name, timeless.
Joseph Alexander sounds better imo to Alexander Joseph.

Hedjwitch · 03/10/2024 22:32

I will never understand the MN obsession with diminutives.. We have a Joseph. Not Joe.Not Joey. Just Joseph, because that's his name. He's 22 now and Joseph to all.( or Lurch, because he's 6 foot 3 and built like a barn door). If people call him Joe he just politely says" It's Joseph".

betsyfloormop · 03/10/2024 22:22

Joseph

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/10/2024 22:00

To be honest, your question shouldn’t be Alexander or Joseph? It should be Alex or Joe? Because with the exception of a Xander everyone I’ve met with those names has gone by Alex or Joe once they are past early childhood.

The full name choice is really difficult imo - because while both are gorgeous, timeless classics, I slightly prefer Alexander because “The Great” always follows in my head 🤣 However I’ve met so many Alex’s over the years I find it a bit dull now (I’m a child of the 80’s and half of them were girls too) - where as Joe seems fresher 🤷‍♀️

So after a long answer - Alexander with the nn Lex, Xand/Xander etc is my fave but if it’s another Alex then I prefer Joseph/Joe.

Yerdawasasausagemaker · 03/10/2024 20:57

This is the most difficult choice on these baby name threads ever. Two excellent names. It’s really difficult to choose, sorry not much help.

ProvincialLady2024 · 03/10/2024 20:55

Both strong lovely names with nice shortenings.

ItWasOnAStarryNight · 03/10/2024 20:51

Joseph. Alexander is lovely too though

KatRee · 03/10/2024 20:11

These were the two middle names we were torn between for ours and we didn't make a decision in the end until he was actually here.
They are both great names, but as a first name Alexander would probably win for me because of so many potential nicknames

hideawayforever · 03/10/2024 20:09

Joseph, but Alexander lovely too

Fontainebleau007 · 03/10/2024 20:07

Alexander

BoleynMemories13 · 03/10/2024 19:02

Both lovely classics with lovely nn potential but I prefer Joseph as a full name as Alexander is a bit of a mouthful.

Button28384738 · 03/10/2024 18:30

I like both. Maybe decide based on which shortened version you like or don't like.
Alexander will be Alex or Xander
Joseph will be Joe or Joey

redtrain123 · 03/10/2024 16:49

Alexander

However, why don’t you wait until babe is here and then see what name suits him best.
